How many guys on here buy a Charger because its just a badass ride, drive it, have fun with it...and how many buy one because of it's value?...As in buy it, restore it...flip it, then buy another one and start all over again.
It is a dream car of mine...last deal I had didn't work out...maybe next year, but thanks to recent ebay links....been looking at a lot of options, much cheaper than a Charger, but would be as much fun, for a driver, at a lot lower cost.
I'm not a collector, so a thing that looks cool, drives nice is what I want...but the price of a Charger is nuts now...don't ya think?
Maybe getting old...want that first car I ever drove type thing, but, I think that something like this would be a blast to drive...much cheaper startup than a Charger....no?

I don't intend to ever sell mine, or I guess be without a 68-9 Charger anyhow. I wish I could have 2.

I've had 2 '65 Coronets over the years that were very good cars.  The one with the 440 shoehorned in to it was scary fast.

charger_fan_4ever

Just cause the second Gen is the baddest ride out there :)

Expensive ? Nowhere near like they were back in 05-6 era. I remember seeing non badges in the 40k range.

1st generation camaro is another mean machine. :naughty: but there are probably 5 camaros to 1 charger.

Plain jane and ss clones are pretty cheap, SS starts to get expensive but you can get quite a bit of SS for $25k. We will say 10k less than a 68-70 R/T.

yep, it would be cheaper to start. i think it looks cool. would make a fun toy. if you jump, post lots of pic's. :yesnod:

I imagine there's a very small percentage of this membership who purchased one for investment only. Those that do usually don't post very often and probably wouldn't see this thread.

Yeah if you want a fun classic for a driver there are boatloads of old GM's out there.   Nothing wrong with going with a 'badge marketing' alternative, either for a fun ride.  GTOs and Chevelles are cool but Skylarks and Montes can be found for cheap, provided some knucklehead hasn't ruined them by stuffing 53" chrome rims under them and slathering them all over with paintjobs that would make Liberace decide to love women:

another way to go is the cougar. there are some around here for pretty cheap. my second car is a 69 cougar. buckets and console, hideaway headlights. they are cool cruisers. :yesnod:

GOTWING

I bought my 73 Charger S/E in 1984 when i turned 16, it was like brand new still.i drove it all through high school and sold it in 1988  to buy a newer car. I always regreted selling it and i wanted it back but never kept any info. Finally after 23 years of searching i found it and bought it back last summer. It's not a 68-70 but it's my first car and means a lot more to me then someone that did not ever own it. I would love to have a 68-70 just because it is the best looking years. I would sell my Superbird before i would sell my 73 Charger, sounds crazy but it's true.

My Chargerwasthe pale green with white s/e top, green interior, 318, auto column, i put new Cragar SS mags on it, alpine stereo, dual exhaust, and air shocks and i was riding!

Getting the car back last year it is now lime light with color keyed bumpers :flame: vintage slots, built 340 engine, has trunk rust, and rust under the back seat, and im afraid a lot of hidden bondo and rust, it looks great from 20 feet away! :eek2:

i have started buying what i can for it, my dream is to have Hodge restorations restore the car the way i want it.

I think Bull is right-on here.  Buying my car was the end of an inordinate amount of time in consideration about what I really wanted. Cost was a definitely a factor (hemi's and 6-pack cars were mostly out of reach even then), but when I finally focused on B-bodies, the choice became very clear. The fact about it being a good investment remains to be seen however.  I would guess that the peak value for these cars was in 2007 or earlier, so holding on to them now in all likelihood will only cost you money.

I bought one because for as long as I can remember I've always wanted this car.  Yes, the DOH had a role in that when I was a snot nosed kid eating fruit loops in front of the t.v. while stealing glances at the Sear's Catalog's bra and pantie section, but I learned to appreciate the car for everything outside of that; I think the 2nd Gen Charger is one of the most beautifully designed and built cars in all of God's universe, and I can't think of a life as a man without one.  I now also own the other cars that I've dreamed of: a Mustang, Camaro and a Firebird, but if I had to have just one of these cars I wouldn't even think twice about which car that would be.  God bless the Dodge Charger and the United States of America!

Ghoste

Always liked the style.  When I got into musclecars they were just used cars and they were all cheap so investment wasn't a factor.

I was gonna respond but myk pretty much summed it up exactly, including the part about the bras and panties.   DOH obviously started my love for Chargers but that's part of growing up in the latter half of the 20th Century.  TV was our first glimpse into the outside world, even if was just a couple of hillbillies jumping their Charger over police cars.

I've always thought it'd be cool to own a GL, but I've wanted a non-GL charger for almost as long.   When I bought my car I briefly thought about painiting it hemi orange and making a set of magnetic decals so I could go in and out of 'General Mode'.  Then when someone asks 'Hey, you gonna make it into a General Lee?' I can say 'Sure!  Want to help me?' and then go get the numbers and roof decals from the trunk.    In fact I still may do that if I ever pick up a '69 and restore it :)

Hmm....I thought the GL was "Omaha Orange?"

-Edit, it's Corvette Flame Red/Orange.  No wonder why my car came out too "bright" after they shot it.  OH well, lol...

My Charger is mechanically in perfect shape now. I drive it all the time. However the paint is bad, and it has some rust bubbles in the lowers. I had to replace the trunk floor. As much as I would love to restore the exterior of the car, I enjoy driving the snot out of it, and not worrying about someone scratching it. It looks good from 30 feet or so.

JUNKTRAVELER: all I've seen in this thread is a bunch of bullies and 3 guys that actually give a crap.

Bad paint?  Coulda' fooled me.  Still looks great...
