I think it is something deeper. In sweden they had those fearsome "raggares" (rockabilly rebels) during the fifties, and Finns followed during sixties. I haven't heard of such a noticeable sub-culture been build around this hobby in other European countries.

In Västerås, Sweden is quite big meeting. They claim it is biggest in a world. I don't know, but it is big meet indeed. Been there twice.

In Forssa, Finland the Pick-Nick meeting is biggest in Finland. It claims to be biggest one day happening in scandinavia. Been there many times...  ;D
