Man, I've seen some bad games but the Devils with some stupid plays and some of the worst calls I've seen in a while ... for BOTH sides.
Congrads to the Kings.  Well done!

i was rooting for the kings after they destroyed the top 2 seeds in the west. they deserved it all by the way they played. congrats to the kings and their fans.

I only saw the replays (because it's hockey and not the Gophers), but did they seriously score 3 goals in a single power play? Those majors will haunt ya.

yep they did. there was a major for bringing blood to the ice. so three goals were scored in 5 minutes. the last with seconds left in the penalty. i thought the hit was a bit questionable, thought it should be a 2 minute boarding penalty. also the guy that got the brunt had just been involved in a hit that he delivered seconds before eating plexiglass. call could have been made on that hit also, but wasnt. it is a judgemental call as the refs see it. i believe in the human factor in sports so i was ok with it. the wife on the other hand was screaming at the tv that it was a clean hit. it is hockey. its supposed to be rough. he just handled the puck and was in the time frame to recieve the hit. oh well, we still enjoyed the game.

My understanding of the rules (at least for AHL) is if there is blood on a call, it's a major.
Human factor yes, BUT there should be consistancy.  If an ump is going to call strikes 2 feet out of the strike zone, he should call them for everyone, not just his favorite team.  Same here ... that should have been a penalty on the first check if you're going to call it on the second. It wasn't and that is the problem.  Did the Devil's loose the game because of it, probably not.  Because they didn't play like they did in game 4 or 5, they made some stupid plays.  But, did it make things worse - yes.
As you said ... it's hockey, it's rough.  It was a clean check.  It is too bad the glass stopped his face but it happens.
Just my 2 cents.  
And I re-watched a portion of the game last night on NHL network.  It was the CBC feed, not the NBC feed.  The CBC announcers were SO much better.  The NBC guys were very biased.

yea, my wife is a canuck. she says both hits should have been good. blood is part of the game and shouldnt be a penalty as long as the hit is clean. she was angry at the call. and you are right, consistancy would be nice. i felt it was a huge blow to get behind by 3 goals that quick.  then when pulling the goalie early and giving up an empty net goal put a period on it all.

Being a Kings fan, of course I think the major was legit.

But that's almost beside the point (and why I hope no one blames the loss solely on Bernier). They still let in 3 goals. In five minutes. Keep in mind that the Kings had been horrible during power plays throughout the playoffs. They seemed to have more success scoring short handed than on PP. The Devils simply lost their shit after the first goal.

yep, the devils were not on their game. im a blues fan. and the way the kings treated them was definately a rodney dangerfield moment. no respect. thats when i decided to root for them. they just looked like they got it together at the right time. to blame the whole loss on a penalty called is just like the cubs blaming bartman ?  for their complete collapse in the playoffs. the puck still had to go in the net. and ive seen teams go scoreless with a 7 minute man advantage. i do believe when they were able to get the goals it did let some air out of the devils sails though.

Yep, I agree.  Both being called wouldn't have changed the fact that the second was a major.
And as we both said, the Devils just played bad after the first goal and worse after the second.
The Kings took adavantage as they should have.  That's why they call it a game.
But, I will say this: if the Devils had played the way they did in 4 and 5, they MAY have taken 4 straight.  It seemed like they had figured out the Kings and Quick. Who knows!
