I'd like to get a HD Fan clutch. My MP unit is working good really, but just need a liitle bit more air flow due the AC in transit. I think a HD unit will dragg a little more helping on get more air flow.

comments, opinions, advise, please.

( last Hayden units weren't really good, and didn't last long a year )

I have used Cooling Depot Jaguar clutches , they seem to be a good product but we do not put many miles on cars with the short summers in Canaduh

I got Hayden non-thermal on all my Chargers....no issues so far

Just curious, how does a fan clutch work WITHOUT a thermo ?

Nacho-RT74

I think simply non affected by the temperature and just a fixed dragging rate with the silicone inside ( or whatever material it has inside ) :shruggy:

it has the fluid inside...keeps the fan blade engaged at lower rpms to get more air through the radiator. At higher rpm's, the fan blade is freewheeling because you got the car going fast enough to move air through radiator by itself

Strange, the MP clutch that comes with the viscous fan package has always worked well for me. The fan however, is another story.
Could it be your fan instead? What kind of fan do you have, Nacho?

7 blades. AC cars used 7 blades and at least MINE got from factory HD clutch, but MP only offers standard duty and 5 blades. I didn't want to use the 5 blades MP comes with it.

hey, my MP is by now working good, but want to check the change using a HD unit now, but a good one. Last hayden units I got SUCKED!

talking about a diff deal but maybe related... going fast ( above 100 MPH on highway, and A/C, although withouth AC sometimes too ) I can see the gauge reading above 2/3 of gauge. Then getting normal speed conditions is hard to get it lowered. When running in normal conditions, barelly gets 1/4 of gauge reading

T stat is MP.

Dunno if this gonna change with HD clutch

I used this on my RR.  Could feel it pulling more air.  It was listed as severe duty as an option over heavy duty.  Since the Runner is now off the road for a while I'm going to move it over to the Chally w/440 to see what difference it will make as the temps have been running higher in the heat using the AC.  It was a little thicker which put it closer to the rad but it made a difference on the RR.

Does anyone have a measurement from where the flange bolts to the water pump pulley to the fan mount surface. I purchased one from NAPA as per application for 70 Charger 440 a/t with air and my fan blade is hitting the lower rad tank. The unit I have measures 1 5/8 inch.

Since I have added a fan shroud to my 22" rad with the fixed 7 blade fan, I have noticed higher engine temps when running on the highway which I did not have before without the shroud.  However, I had just the opposite effect without the shroud.  Higher temps at idle or slow driving and cooling better on the highway.  I was wondering if I can install a fan clutch with the factory fixed 7 blade fan and just swap out the fixed spacer for the clutch?  Is that possible or would I need a different fan due to the length of the fan clutch?

fixed fan blades are different than clutch fan blades...your fan will not attach to a clutch. Probably the reason you are seeing higher temps with a shroud is because fan blade is kinda stopping the air going through the radiator....if you had a clutch fan, it would limit the speed on the fan so maybe more air could get through

Bryan  (not sure if this is true, but it sounded good in my head when I typed it)

resq302

Im almost pretty sure that is what is happening.  Figures.... one more thing I will have to look for if I want to get nice cooling at highway speeds.  Its not getting overly hot, just going every so slightly past the 12 o'clock position.  And that could even be because the sending unit is not giving a correct signal or the gauge might need to be calibrated. :shruggy:
