One day, 30 years from now, the kids from today will be sitting in front of their computers (or whatever they have in 2042) and typing away on forums telling each other about how they remember the good old days, when the 94 Honda Civic had 124 horsepower, and how they modded them with giant wings and fartcans, and how they had one in highschool they got for only 8,000 dollars, but could kick themselves now that the Civic R-Type Fartocanopotomus DX model is worth over a million dollars at Barrett-Jackson, and how these electric buggies they have nowadays were nothing like the powerful 4-cylinders of their youth when men were men and everyone listened to Justin Bieber on MP3.

This is the future... please shoot me before I get there as the 'old dude' who knew better.

I'm lucky enough not to get there!  :eek2:

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

Yeah but with old age comes a certain degree of learning and wisdom.  These premarital sex practicing, drugged, tattooed, gangbanging punks today may live long enough to remember the fartcan days, but if they've made anything of themselves in the future they'll probably move on to serious machinery that would eclipse anything that could be enjoyed through nostalgia.  In other words, I could see them looking back at their fartcans with fond memories, much like I look back on my BMX days with a certain degree of love, but ultimately being an adult will pull everyone towards a higher degree of desire and collecting.

However, I wouldn't say the same about the truly serious import cars that actually did have the performance to back the 3 feet tall wings: Supra turbos, RX7 turbos, Evo's, STi's, Skylines, S14's, S13's, etc.  These cars are solid performance machines that are desireable now and always will be, and I could easily see them crossing the BJ or Mecum (sp?) auctions in the future.  As for the Civics, Protoges, Corollas and all of that ilk?  Fuggedaboutit...

I just did the sums and with good luck it seems I will get there. How good is that. I'm not nearly as old as I thought!
The things I have yet to look forward to.

30 years is a long time, just look at everything that has happened/changed in the last 20 years. Kind of hard to believe. I graduated high school in 1994 and we were just starting to use the internet. Now the world couldn't function without it.

RECHRGD

In 30 years I'll be 94, still driving the Charger if I can find the keys...........

lol, 30 years is a drop in the bucket. My son will be 35 this year and it seems like just yesterday he was riding his Honda 50 on a dirt track I made for him in the back yard.

In 30 years I will be 49, and my baby will have a 572 Hemi in her.  :2thumbs:

The older I get, the FASTER I ran as a boy....
People like nostalgia. Its fun to think of the good old days. I'm 46 and I think that I live in the rearview mirror as much as i do looking forward.
I did some stupid stuff as a kid. I do stupid stuff as an adult too.  I put shackles and air shocks on my first car to fit a set of rims that were too wide for the car. I've ran cars without air cleaners because I liked the sound. I took stupid chances in traffic and was lucky that I never hurt anyone.
I recall about 20 years ago, some magazines had articles pondering about what cars will be in the next wave of collectable classics. At the time, the Buick GNX was near the tops of the list. Also listed were the 1LE Camaro, the LT5 ZR1 Corvette, the 85-87 Mustang 5.0L, even the Toyota Supra. You dont see many of THOSE on the road today.
