1969 Dodge Charger, Wierd Threaded Rod Wielded to Chassy?

Can anyone help? Brought a 1969 dodge charger out of texas two years ago (i live in New Zealand). The car had 3 metres of 3/8 unc threaded rod wielded down the right hand chassy rail and wields every 12 inches for a couple of inches. Can anyone help with ideas as to why this was done? also had subframe connectors attached to the car. could it have possibly been used in the dukes of hazard series?

Hmmm..at first I thought it was the stone guard that is wrapped around the steel brake lines but looking at the pics closer it actually is threaded rod welded to the  sub frame....

Welcome, cant imagine why unless it was the revious owners form of  "chassis strengthening" ?
Is the car on the road yet, or still in progress?

Hmm, hard to say why a previous owner would weld something like that under the car. However, it isn't factory so who knows.

There's a few Kiwi's on here. Just been through the vin process with my 68, Got it done at VTNZ Mt Wgtn by Glynn
Ended up putting a front end suspension/bush kit & ball joints/tierods through as well, dough well spent - handles as good as it can

I've seen old school hot rodders do similar things but usually with square tubing or angle brackets to stiffen up the ride, maybe all this guy had handy was threaded rod.  I guess he didn't know that rods bend.  I'd say it's safe to cut them off, they're not going to do much.  I'm pretty sure a stunt crew on the doh would go a bit beyond welding a rod on the rocker, it wouldn't do a thing in a hard landing.

I'm from hamilton. It seems 68's are the most common year in nz, seen a few of them at the beach hop, yours looks tidy from what i can see in the display pic. im only 18 so im not that clever when it comes to the mechanical work, so ill have to take your word for it

The Tron eh, there is a guy in Cambridge in one of the latest NZV8's who has a 6.1 Hemi powered Black 69, pretty tasty, you'll have to get yours sorted for the Stragglers show at Lake Koutou, always a good one , usually come down from the big smoke for that one 
Mines not too bad, had a busy 6 months on it and driving it now so all is good, could'nt get it finished in time for the Hop so sat it out this year     been to 6 or so and Kumeu show is a must 

The tech section and search function on here is first class, so much info, chances are if you have a prob or  a query someone somewhere has done it before and run into the same prob and come up with a solution

been thinking  ,    bracket for fuel line  , mainly to ad strenght for the diaginal run of the line  in non stock location at some point in the cars life

Thats a plausible theory.  Someone may have had rubber fuel line (neoprene or whatever) for who knows why and needed that to keep it in place?

yeah i saw that issue, got his poster on my wall   didn't he put a late model charger interior in it? yuck. yeah it should be registered around Octoberish? if shes ready in time id love to take her to a show even though it won't quite be show room quality for a year or two... is yours mint? or does it need some work, ill post two pics up...havnt got any good ones of it at the moment will take some in the weekend, first one was a few weeks ago, second was a week after it arrived in New Zealand.
