Sometimes there's no "pretentiousness" to it,.....a person may be "drawn" to the lines/styling of a car, perhaps a car that is beyond their financial means.... so they "cloned" a Bently, it was done rather well.....I see something like this as no different than someone cloning a Daytona, Superbird, or a Charger 500...because they desire one

I agree, but cloning a Daytona is a bit of a different animal, because they're based on the same car - the same heritage and a big chunk of the same exact parts - and even though you're faking it by upgrading it to a much pricer model, at least you're not putting lipstick on pig and calling it Jessica Alba's left boobie.

The majority of people who buy real Bentleys are very pretentious, because Bentleys are not that special and they're definitely not 200K worth of car for the money (compared to plenty of 50K cars that are just as nice for 1/4 of the price).   If someone is drawn to it, it's typically for the status - not the materials and workmasnhip or even the speed (like AC Cobra clones, etc) - and that's what Bentley sells on - status.   Sure, they make it out of premium parts, but is hand carved and numbered woodgrain  150K better than non-numbered woodgrain?   Is 'hand-built' really any better than 'precision machine built'?  No.   If you've got a bazillion dollars and can wipe yourself with Benjamins, then you might want to go out and buy the real thing because all the parts, while not much better than other production cars, give you status.   And you are a douche if you do it for that reason in my book.   I have much more respect for really loaded people who drive 'simple' Cadillacs.   They want something nice, but don't buy into the hype.

Now, if you're the type of person who can't even remotely afford a Bentley, but want everyone else to think you're elite, so you buy a cloned car based on a used heap, and pay a small premium for it - just so you can pretend to be the kind of obnoxious ass who buys cars just because others can't afford them, when in fact YOU can't afford them either, you're just sad.  And everyone who pretends to be impressed knows you're sad.  Everyone who is really impressed is EXTRA sad.  The rest don't know the difference and they give up their panties cause you drew all your money out of the bank so you could have a stack of 20 Benjis to flash next to your fake Rolex which is tucked under the windbreaker of your 80's tracksuit that covers up your bright green Reebok pumps.
