ok heres the deal. we did a motor swap and also pulled the tranny. everythings back in the car now. im not sure how to correctly connect the linkage to the tranny so it functions properly.   i assume the shifter has to be in a certin position when connecting the linkage to the tranny? i messed with it for a while today but i wasnt getting anywhere.

as it sits now the car is in some forward gear which i dont know but none of the linkages are connected to the tranny.

can anyone tell me the right way to go about doing this?  thanks guys, Mike

shifter & trans levers must be in neutral, then adjust the swivel pieces so they just fall into the lever holes on the trans.....or maybe the swivel adjusters are on the shifter end...it's been a while since I looked at mine

My cars are Inland shifters, there is a special tool to slip into the shifter slots to hold the levers when adjusting

is there a way to tell which gear is engaged in the tranny right now? i have the hurst shifter with the wicked bend in it. im actually not sure what its called honestly.

not really, you don't have the rods switched, do ya?

Pull the rods off the trans levers and move both levers to neutral, you will be able to tell with rear wheels off the ground and then you can spin drive shaft

Then adjust both rods so they fall into the holes on the correct levers on the trans

no nothing is switched. i dunno if thats even possible by the look of it.  is there a way to rig up the shifter somehow without the tool to make sure its in the right position?
