At least the guy is honest about a selling a dishonest car.  ::)

I love the line "The issue with the car is that it has been re-bodied at some point in time, VIN plate, fender tag, motor trans, rearend etc. were moved to a donor car.  Donor car was a 383 SuperBee and had been used as a racecar in the past. I have no idea when any of this was done or who did it."

I am sure he doesn't  ::)

I thought this was illegal.

Come on thats only a minor detail  :smilielol:

On the flip side atleast he is disclosing it and not trying to pass it off as legit.

What i forsee is with the BIT now of 24k someone will buy it and try to make 20k on it passing it off as legit.

Whenever someone argues that there's nothing wrong with "saving" a rare car by swapping VIN numbers, I've always said it's the person who buys it down the road that gets screwed. In this case the seller may (or may not) have been misled but he's got the integrity/guts to forewarn the next guy. That's about as honest as you can get in this situation. Lots of sellers these days would neglect to mention it and hope the buyer doesn't notice - at least until it's too late to come back on them demanding restitution. The car is built and sold at this point so there's really no going back. The guy who did the swapping probably still sees nothing wrong with it.

Can't tell, but maybe it is this one, the T5 Copper, that's next to my former T7 Bronze. Forget the gent's name, but he's been to Monster Mopar weekend a few times. He used to live in Texarkana then moved to Arkansas I believe... He had a T5, saddle-tan 4speed interior with steelies and white 500 stripe

But isn't that illegal?  I was under the impression it was.

It's interesting though... of course it's illegal just to cut the VIN off and slap it on another car, but where's the line between 'rebody' and 'mega overhaul'.   For instance, the Lee 1 car was a perfectly legal 'restore' even though almost none of the original car was there.

Is there a legal precedent of how much of an original car has to still be there to consider it a 'restoration' and not a rebody?    I can see the cowl and dash needing to be there because they house the VIN, but what else?  Fender + Tag?  Two Fenders, a dash and a rear axle?

(ŌŌ)[ƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗƗ](ŌŌ) = 70

That could mean that he moved across the street.  :scratchchin:

Did anyone see the 'Chasing Classic Cars' episode where they shutdown the auction because they thought some cars might be 'iffy' in their ID plates ( i think a couple owners just took the plates off to restore the body/paint, but didn't actually change them from another car)

so what should be done now that it is changed (possibly has non-matching stampings on it)? i guess it'd have to be re-titled?

it's probably safe so long as both cars are not stolen.
