Sounds familiar.......

For me not such an issue welding, grinding, spraying primer and sanding isnt that much exciting
I know your pain. Can't say much except to keep poking away at it. I sometimes would do other odd jobs on the car to break up the monotony.

lol I don't see another Charger in my future. Someday I'd like to do a 70s Porsche 911 Turbo. It would be a driver, not a show car.

Thats an interesting contrast in garage occupants.

:popcrn: That's the exhaust system below - Pypes 2.5" stainless with X pipe.

Interested to see how you make out with the pypes exhuast. I just got finished putting it on my 68 with headers.  We had to do quite a bit of cutting and welding to get it to fit right!  Project looks amazing though!!  Threads like this that keep my spirtis up !!

Especially after today when I pulled out my upper control arm to find out that my strut tower and frame directly below it are rotten......  :icon_smile_angry:

Sorry to hear about your strut tower and frame. That's never a good place to be in  :rotz:

Yeah, I was afraid it wouldn't fit very well. For the price though, I can do some modifications and still come out on top. We'll see.... :shruggy:

The vinyl top is on and so is the trunk lid!  :icon_smile_big:

I'll post photos soon.

  Here we go!

I referenced the Mopar Muscle Magazine article and the Moparts Tech article to put the top on.
http://www.moparts.org/Tech/Archive/misc/4.html
http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/howto/mopp_0102_how_to_install_a_vinyl_convertible_top/

A couple things I would add -

1. Be sure to let the glue dry for a couple minutes before pressing the 2 surfaces together. It needs to tack up. We had problems with lots of little bubbles on the roof because the glue was still runny. Continuously going back over it and rubbing out the bubbles eventually fixed it. Once the glue tacked up, they stopped coming back.

2. I used 3 cans of glue. (3M Yellow Super Trim Adhesive) Most said 4 were needed. IMO if you use 4 cans, you're using too much glue. We sprayed both the vinyl and the metal up-down and left-right for a total of 4 coats of glue. I can't imagine needing more than that.

Your skills are amazing - especially for a young dude.  Many of us wouldn't even think about trying that. Cheers to you!    Your car is beautiful, and having the ability to say - "yeah, I did that myself" - - PRICELESS.

Stevearino

That car is drop dead gorgeous. Great job on the top.

Thanks! I have to admit that the guy behind the camera helped a lot. ;D But neither of us had done a vinyl top before, so it was an adventure.

Now we both know how to put one on! (and will probably never do it again :smilielol: )

I got the rear end under it tonight, so I guess that's one step closer to sex. :naughty:
