Was noticing this on a GL last week and I wondered if they all get this paint damage from the CB antenna or is this one just installed wrong?

Tilar

:scope:   Hmmm, I think if that were mine I would cut a short piece of vacuum line and stick down on the antenna where it makes contact with the roof. It might not look perfect but it would solve the problem.

That sucks then.  I suppose there are worse things though.

Thats the only thing im not putting on mine

Yes it was , if you have ever seen  W.W close up GL the paint is maked from antenna hitting it , the solution the studio came up with , a spacer on the hinges of the trunk to stop it going all the way up .
They got pretty technical , they used a piece of wood and some electrical tape to hold it in place .

Ghoste

Haha, I'm a little surprised they went to that much trouble.

I had more problems with stupid punks trying to slide across the hood

I have stops on the trunk so the antenna doesn't hit the roof. I think the trunk lid set screw clamp would do more damage.

Ghoste

Your stops aren't pieces of wood and electrical tape are they?

Yep, if you've ever seen the episode(Think it was "High Octane") where Rosco and Enos trap the boys in the GL, and he runs around the back to steal Jesse's shine out of the trunk of the GL For the alternative fuel contest, you will see why I won't put this on mine either.

CLack, Clack, Clack...As soon as the trunk was popped..

I just open the trunk slowly and carefully. No problems yet.
I pointed to two old drunks sitting across the bar from us and told my friend
"That's us in 10 years".
He said "That's a mirror, dip-shit!

You can make up a simple tie back chord for it if you have to have it open in the wind. Otherwise just toss a rag on the top or slide some rubber gas line or Vacuum line down the shaft of the antenna..  That looks like you are letting the lid fly open....  :icon_smile_blackeye:

Exactly. Will it hit? Yes.. Does it have to? Not if you're careful.
