I too have lost interest

General Ryan

For the past while, month and half prob., I've lost total interest in cars, particularly, mine.

I feel like just getting rid of everything and buying a bicycle. Why, I wish I knew, but I am sick of spending money on them and making living more difficult. It seems my cash flow is spread so thin that I'm barely getting by with the skin of my teeth and i must pick which bills I can pay every 2 weeks. I know its winter and everything is slow and the downer of the cold and weather is bumming me out, but I think, well If I still feel this way when I'm able to just climb into the General and cruise the problems of life away for that liitle bit, then perhaps I need to make a change.

The new job I have really sucks in my opinion because I am not doing what I was brought on board to do and what they have me doing instead is NOT what I wanna do so much that I kinda hope I get laid off. I'm grateful to have a job and it keeps me afloat but it just makes these feelings worse.

I went to see the Charger on Sun. just to see if looking at it would do what it used to do, get me through the next while of winter and get excited for the anticipation of being able to drive it again and put a smile on my face, not so this time. I feel (right now anyways) that I should sell both the Charger and then put a tranny in the Camaro and sell it too and just sit on the money and ease the current money stress and possably just get a cheap little car to get from point A to B, a new one, one I don't have to work on or replace anything on, as I am sick of having to do it. I just don't enjoy it anymore, at this time.

I hope it changes, I really do, as I had SOO much fun hanging around with my car buddies and cruising the cars, but now, it just seems like maybe having a bunch of cash in the bank is better than driving and repairing constant depreciative merchandise.

Sorry for the rant, but I had to get this off my chest.

The part that boils me is the prices that everything is commanding. I have taken to restoring older Japanese bikes to try to fund the Mopars, but it seems that every bit of money I make off a bike is lost in the latest ratcheting of prices. While not wanting to be a naysayer or such, I really do hope the market crashes so the lowly plebes will be able to afford the cars they love rather than the high dollar only lads.

You own a Camaro :nono:

I doubt your Charger is going to loose value, well other than being a general clone I expect the value of those to drop..but its still a sweet 69 Charger.

Sell the Camaro..what is so hard to figure out? A turbo 350 shouldn't cost more than a few hundred if that.

I am trying to be helpfull, but I have a way that rubs some the wrong way when I say stuff, no foul meant.

It is winter blues.  It goes away when you drive the car down the road and watch for all the  :2thumbs:

But if you really are going to sell something.  I agree it should be the Chevy product.

Do you have a picture of this camaro?  My friend at work is looking for one right now...

GR, I'm pretty sure that everyone here that is or has had their Charger restored/worked on has gone through the "blues" you are going through. Every month we have a member that feels the same way you do about the restoration costs or just as simple as small upgrade costs. I agree they are out of this world, especially when I paid $ 2.50 for a nut to secure my seats on a Charger. I'm currently way over budget on my Charger and engine. I also get the blues when I get my Visa bill! Other factors might add, magnify and contribute to your down feelings, such as work related, spouse related, health, health of a love one, etc........You might just want to think a minute and regroup your thoughts on where you want to be and see what would it take to get you there. Be realistic and come up with a budget and plan to get you there. Allot of the work on our Chargers can be done in-house. Talk to friends about your project and see if they can lend a helping hand or just talking about it helps. Posting as you did helps too. You will realize how common that feeling is. Winter months (lack of sun & short days) also tend to affect the production of seratonin in your brain, the hormone that makes you feel up and good.

Finally, if your not happy doing what you are doing for a living, make a change. Start by improving your situation at work, if not, your disgust will trickle down to other things that use to make you happy. Hating what you do for a living is not living - been there!!

I agree on all of that, 4402tuff4u, especially about the Visa bill.

We are all stressed about our cars, and money.  That is why I am selling off the projects that I know I will never ever get to.
If your money is tight, hold off on that new part until you get things in order.

Charger_Fan

I'd sell the Camaro too, then see how much better life feels at that point. ;D If you sell the Charger, in a year or two the anguish from selling it will drive you crazy. If you can sell the Camaro for enough money to lighten the financial load, that right there will improve your outlook.

What year is the Camaro anyhoo?

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

greenpigs

Yeah, if it is a first gen your sitting pretty on the cash coming your way. If it is a 1983 Camaro you may want to start collecting aluminum cans to supplement your income instead.

BTW I have a hankering for a 77-79  Z-28..we all have are weak moments.

I am with you General.I am considering just parking my 73 behind the house as is and let it sit and rot.Same with all my parts.I am tired of when I go to buy a part nobody has it.Then 2 or 3 days later they sell the part I asked about to someone else.Or worse ,they sell it to someone in South America or Europe. The prices for parts are bad enough without that.I've loved working on Mopars since I was 12.But as soon as this became a Fad it has become one of those things of who you know.As far as prices, when I bought my 73 5years ago it cost me $1000.Now it would cost me $3000.Most people say it is good for me, but i don't care about it's value. But what gets me is a Bulge Hood 5 years ago was $225 is now $800 if you can find one.And a Cut out Rear Valance was $75 now $300.I understand prices go up but this is just plain greed in the worst way.I believe in the next few years as all the Babyboomers start to die off you will see a slide in values and maybe when the fad is over I'll get back into Mopars again.I'll just pick up reasonably priced parts and cars and sit on them.If someone asks if my 73 is for sale I'm going to tell them that" I'm going to fix it up someday".

Hey Ryan,  I hope you can hang in there.  Although I am still in the "Honeymoon" stage with my charger, I do know the feelings your having.  I think it will pass, but there is one thing I do know.  You will always have bills, and even though selling might ease the tension for awhile, you will find something else to put your money into and will be back in the same boat.  I think you should read some of the threads about people wishing they hadn't sold their charger.
I agree 100% with sorting out the work situation,  that is where most of your time is spent and it will effect the rest of what you do.  Anyway, keep us posted, and do what you think is best.

blackcharger

been there, DOING it. I qite going to cruises, and didn't hardly look at many cars last year at the Nats. Reminds me how far I have to go with mine. But the next time I take the road runner out ,hear the pipes, feel the torque, it all goes away. I've got a daughter that's starting college this fal(what do you think that will do to my sometimes nonexsistant car budget?).
As far as prices and finding parts, it takes a while, but I look around and pay MY price. Done pretty good so far.
The next nice day, fire that Charger up and go thru a tank of gas. That'll chase those BLAHS away. Oh, and sell that Cheby. No Brainer.

It happens to the best of us.  I've been thinking about getting rid of "Ole Red", My 76 Stepside Powerwagon but today I needed to take some stuff to the dump and run a couple errands so I drove it.  At Wal Mart a man came up to me and asked what year is it?  "Man thats sharp and in good shape"  at the Dump another guy comes up out of the Blue and says "man that is a good looking truck, I have an 85 but I was looking for one of these".  Anyway, after that I would no longer even consider it.  Every time I drive it or my Charger its the same thing.  Last weekend I had my Garage door open and a guy pulls in my driveway and asks "is that a Dukes car?"  It sure helps to keep you motivated when you get comments like that.  Dave

If you saw my recent thread in off topic you know I'm there too. I just decided to do it whether I feel like doing it or not, simply because I know I want one and wouldn't feel good about selling it. Honestly I couldn't imagine how crappy I'd feel watching someone drive off towing my car behind them. You have to listen to your head at this point and realize it will be worth the effort someday. Two things that help are 1. seeing progress and 2. the occasional ride in your favorite car, so if you have a Charger buddy nearby ask if you can go for a quick ride or just fire it up in the garage and check it out. The noise and fumes will scramble your emotions and make you forget about the crazy notion of getting rid of your car. I know the cost of this can be a killer but don't try doing it all at once, like I did. Once I get mine painted I plan on slowing down so I don't kill myself and everyone around me.

Ghoste

I go through it every winter and this year with the B-J circus of insanity of insanity and greed, it's worse than ever.  I went to a Mopar sawp meet in Detroit on the weekend hoping that would pick me up but even prices on parts are going stratospheric.
BUT....
Being said, I sold a 69 Charger once many years ago and swore I was getting out of cars forever.  Guy came to my house, paid me and left with my car.  As I was driving into town, I saw him parked at a service station adding air to a tire and dancing around the car in joy and I literally began to cry.  I wanted to go in there and hand his money back and demand the return of my car but I knew I couldn't.  I realized what a mistake I made and I still miss that one car.
If you really want to get out of cars, you will know it, but make sure it is not the winter blues or even the B-J greed blues because it's an easy hobby to sell out of but a very difficult one to buy back in and it's not a hobby that you can easily shake.  It's in your blood.
If you decide you want to seel because you have found something else more fulfilling for you and it's the height of car season and everyone is telling you how great the car looks and it's running fine and you're using it every day and you still want out, then that might be the time to go.  Hang in man!
Oh, and work is supposed to suck, otherwise they'd charge you admission.

69chargeryeehaa

dude, i think your crazy, someone please take him to the hospital!!!! ok the sell the camaro, but the charger?????

i've had like 50 cars in the past 15 years, there are a few i really, really regret selling. i would give thousands now to get them back, finally after searching 8 yrs for a 69 charger last sept my wish came true. i would'nt sell it if u gave me $500,000.00 for it. i've had like 3 serious offers of $30k for it and did'nt even take their phone # and said no way, leave me alone, get your own. last time i heard someone say something so silly they were having a stroke!!!!! if you feel the way i do about chargers, or have once before felt that way then don't sell it, you'll kick yourself in the bum and bang your head aginst the wall, trust me. sell the camaro and get a little money, hang in there, and you'll see in the summer, when u pull it out of the garage, start it up, "VROOOOM, (give a little gas quick before it dies), man the whole car rocks when i gas it, damm."
if your still in doubt, take the car out of storage, go for a drive, if you still feel that way then nobody can stop you, when you come to your sences you'll be sorry. funny story, when i bought the car off of the last owner he had it for 7yrs, money was the issue to sell it, when i started it up to drive off after i paid the guy a huge lump of sweaty cash i look in the mirror, he was crying.........i recently spoke to him and he's looking for another one, i told him what i've done to the car and he said he does'nt even want to see it, he's really upset. my gluteus maximus bleads for him, but it's mine now. :icon_smile_cool: :icon_smile_big: :yesnod:

oh and if your still loosing interest after all these replys, your only 3 hours away from me, i'll be there tommorrow with $cash$ and take it off you hands. :icon_smile_tongue: :icon_smile_big:

Here is a solution...move to the south and get a job you like!  We are going to the local car show this Saturday in the blower car and the Cuda, I don't think we could handle not driving them for a couple months.  It kills Jonathan not driving it for the two weeks he is out of town for work each month.  So there you have it, move to the sun and the warmth and get a new job you love here. ;D

Dude Ryan...
I was in the same predicament as you when I was 23ish.  I could not afford to keep my '69 in TOP NOTCHED shape.  I ended-up selling it because I couldn't afford it's up-keep.  It was only a 318 car, non-factory teal color, no rear upper door pads, but STILL today I wish I still had it more than my awesome R/T SE.  I have alot of fond memories in it/on it...   It was a great car and it's 383 was POTENT.  I would pay 10X what I sold it for to have it back.
HOLD-ON for now man.  When you have enough money to get the car in "tip-top" shape you won't have it!  You are fortunate to have one of the most sought-after muscle cars ever made.  In my opinion it seems that to own one you have to have a well-established income (anymore)...
FACE-IT as long as you do not have a BUNCH of Green to sink-into it to make it reliable, she will have small things go wrong.  Nature of the beast.  I hope you can find the patience to wait these frustrations out.  By the time you are ready for another they may be TOO HIGH in price even if your income has stablized...  How important is it to you?  Hopefully as important to you as it is to most of us.  If selling the Camaro helps you, DO IT.  You can ALWAYS get another, (look at the production differences).  How many Chargers have you seen compared to Camaros?

chargervert

Hey Ryan, just be paient, spring will be here soon, and you will open the garage doors, look at your cars, and smile! :icon_smile_big: Money problems, come and go,but if you sell your cars, you will always regret it,and probably will never be able to replace them in todays crazy market! You have to think long term with these cars! I think once you drive them again, you will forget you ever thought about selling them! Good luck Ryan! Pete!

It helps living somewhere that the weather isn't keeping you from enjoying your baby.

I know for a fact if I was still living in Portland, OR (Bull knows about the rain! :icon_smile_big: ), or back in Anchorage, AK (just ask Mark - aka dads69) I'd be in hell for 5-7 months out of the year.

Don't lose sight of the long term.

You'll regret selling it the minute the new owner takes the keys.

And then you'll really be hatin' it when the summer rolls around.

if you hate spending the cash park the charger some place safe and dry .. you will never regret not selling it. you admit that its something you love, keep on to it untill that loving feeling comes back.
you can pick up 700r4's for not that much. Ive been the whole 3rd gen f-bodys rout and have never regretting them, they ran grate, easy to work on and with $3000 including car price you had something that looked good and wipe the smurk off the face of those 03 cobra boys. stretch the cash to pick up a tranny and off the camero and hang in there man.
