I've got the K-frame I want to install painted and ready. However, I need to remove my old K-frame. I didn't remove the one I'm going to install so I don't know how difficult it is. But it looks fairly hard by myself. I have absolutely no one who can help or anyone who is willing to help. I have the front end raised up of course, with every suspension part stripped off. I thought about wrapping a chain on each side around the middle of the K-frame where the oil pan sits above and securing it with a long bolt and nut. I was going to take up the slack using my engine hoist, unbolt all the bolts and lower the old K-frame down enough to slide it out. And I hope it will install as easy as it sounds to get out. What method have you'll had success with? Right now I just have a bunch of parts sitting around waiting to be put on, so it doesn't look like I've made any progress on my project,  but once the K-frame is on, I can go to town installing the brakes, suspension, then engine and transmission. So is it possible to remove and install a K-frame by yourself, with the front end raised up on jackstands?

Support the engine with your hoist.Unbolt your steering box from the K Member.Put a Floor Jack under the K and unbolt the K.Then lower.

biggest reccomondation I can make is make sure you get every bolt holding the brake lines on the k-member before you go to drop it. nothing worse than getting it half way down and kinking a line!!.
the hardest part of the swap to me is taking the torsion bars out. best way Ive found is remove the retaining clips on the rear solid 'pockets'. remove all the tension from the bars (unscrew the ride hight adjustment bolts on the undersides of the lower A-arms all the way). take a good heavy duity set of vicegrips and clamp them on the torsion bar using an old surpenteen fanbelt to keep from scratching the crap out of the bars (rumors have it that cracks can propagate very quickly in deeply scratched areas and snap the bars after some time. using a big ol hammer hit the vice grips to force the bars back and out of the way.
keep in mind the front k-member was made to be just poped in from the underside at the factory. just make sure you loosen every thing up before you remove the crossmember. its a pain to loosen something up when it moves around. my suggestion from this point is support the engine with the cherry picker remove the calapers and tie them up and outtta the way, lossen every thing up , take out all the bolts/clips holding the break lines in and drop the k-member with every thing else attached. Id drop it with the steering box attached.
good luck.

My entire suspension is stripped from the old k-frame already, and my engine is out, the whole engine compartment is stripped. I thought it would be easier to do the K-frame now. Do I have to remove the transmission mount crossmember to swap the K-frame?
