Fuel Sending Unit issues

Just got my 70 running last week and found that the fuel gauge is off by 1/4 tank. Checked the ohms and it read way off of what it should be at 10 and 73. I decided to replace the sending unit and just received it today and started the troubleshooting process again. Now I am lost guys. I did the ohm check on the new sender and for the most part is was ok. It was still just a little high when the unit was at empty though. I plugged it up to the harness and ground and it was still 1/4 tank low. When the sending unit was in the FULL position the gauge read FULL. When the sending unit was in the EMPTY position the gauge read EMPTY. But, everything in the middle was still 1/4 tank low. I bent the float down to where it still showed empty on the gauge and tried it again but if I want to show 3/4 the float bar is almost at the top of the sending unit. Maybe I just don't understand how this works. I bend it down to read more fuel but does this mean that everything from full to empty is going to be inaccurate? After all this I hooked the multimeter back up and now the ohm readings are way off.

Some tips would be very helpfull at this point.
