Buy a whole truck to get an engine?

I found this truck for sale. It has a rebuilt 1975 440. The engine has around 1000 miles so says the owner. Rebuilt to stock specs. I wonder if it is worth the effort or not.

Well, it would depend on how that 1975 440 was rebuilt...If it was kept Stock, with replacement, low comp. slugs, then it isn't worth it for more power IMO...

..Not really the hot ticket. I'd keep hunting for a better deal..Maybe like the one i got on a 1977 440. Not rebuilt, but cheaper @$500.00 ....Running when pulled about 5 years ago. No trans.

I think it seems like a good deal.......buy the truck for maybe 1500-1600 and sell off parts and get engine for cheap.....I mean you get to hear it run and maybe test drive......Are you looking for a stockish motor?.......check it out what do you have to loose

The goal is more than 230 HP to the rear wheels. Low 13's or better in the quarter mile.

Hmmm    probably not bro -  the cast crank 440 would have low compression and would need at minimum pistons, cam, intake, carb to make some decent hp...       better deals are out there.

It may be worth doing , you would have a lot of parts to sell of even if it is just a core engine that you would have to build , throw astroker kit into it & you have a killer engine but you have to look at this as just buying a 440 core not a drop in but at least you can test drive it & know that is it complete & working

Most "rebuilder" style 440 engines, probably won't have much more, if any more power than what you currently have...
so,
if you are thinking of buying it for a "drop in" to gain performance, might be a waste of time ?
but,
if you are looking for a "core" to begin building, might be a good candidate, lotsa parts, as long as the Block isn't "used up" in overbore already from prior rebuilds ?
