Yea, he's lovin' every penny of it!  What a two-face bastard!  He was the same jerk-off who said the new movie was shamefull and we should not spend our $$$$$ to see it, nor bring our families to see it. Yet, he lines his pockets with the cash & another 15 min. of fame on the backend of the deal.  What a scumbag.  Typical politician.   :icon_smile_dead:  :Twocents:

What are you talking about?  Cooter has been one of the driving forces of KEEPING the Dukes alive.  He bashed the movie and I agree with him.  While the screen version wasn't bad, the original nonrated version was horrible, and that's the one he was talking about.  He's not trying to cash in on it now, he always HAS been cashing in on it.  Smart business and a whole lotta fun, I'm sure.

I would LOVE to take a couple laps with Cooter.  Great story for the kids.

I think Ben Jones is working the new DOH boom both for a genuine love of the show AND for cold hard cash.

Not a lot of people know this, but Ben was apprarently contacted by someone with WB last spring about showing a new movie GL at "Dukesfest" and doing some tie-in stuff.  (This was last year, when Ben Jones was still totally in charge of "Dukesfest.")  Well, Ben basically told them to go to hell in such unpleasant terms that the movie people were a little startled.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ben's definitely in this to make himsefl richer and he's pretty shameless about it.  Don't get me wrong.

But that doesn't mean he doesn't also have some genuine feelings about a lot of this stuff.  Heck, his gripes about the movie seem a lot more justfiied now that the unrated cut has been released.  THAT is the movie they were shooting, it's the PG-13 version that they've been treating as the "throwaway" cut.

Bens problem isnt with the money, but ripping apart an american icon for cheap laughs and fast cash.

I watched the movie, enjoyed the movie, but lets face it, its NOT the DOH that everybody came to love.
In fact if there wasnt an orange 69 charger in it Im not even sure I could identify it as the DOH.

And as far as Ben Jones making money on it, the mans got to eat.  Hes an actor and has been type cast as
"Crazy Cooter". No matter what he tries to play he will always be Cooter, which for an actor means its time
to flip burgers. All of the other cast of DOH have tried to continue there acting career with limited success.
John has prolly done the best, but Im not sure Supermans dad, on the WB network, 20 years later even counts.

So in my eyes does taking money for rides a little chessy?  Ya sure, but hell whatever the cost is, it would be a great story
to tell. Besides this man seems to really love it, and better him than some random guy or worse no guy at all.  And in the
end Im sure there is untold hours of work and struggle to get the dukefest started and then continue to run it.

Is he making money?  Im sure and prolly a bit of it. Do I blame him?  Nope all the power to him, and the DOH lives on.  :)

Tom Wopat has been the most successful actually, he's been back in the theater.  He's also been the farthest away from the Dukes, probably for that same reason.   Exciting that he'll be at Dukesfest this year!

What about Rob Schneider-sic he has a role on smallsville as Supermans dad, which is a little better than performing on stage.

That was already mentioned two posts up.  Performing theater is usually considered to be harder than TV as it's live and up close.  Some actors would prefer to be on TV and some would prefer to be in the theater.  Considering that John has had only one serious role since the Dukes and Tom has had many, and they're both in the fields where they want to be, Tom is more successful.  It's kinda like saying you won two million in the lottery instead of one million....both are winners.

Don't worry about old "Cooter". He won't go hungry anytime soon. He's a former US Congressman. He receives a nice pension & medical benefits for life from US Taxpayers.

Type Cast??   He ain't no Lawrence Olivier or John Wayne, so I'm pretty sure his "acting" career wasn't going past the Hazzard County line.

"I'm pretty sure his "acting" career wasn't going past the Hazzard County"

I have to agree 100%. At best he would have been playing the bit parts on all of the 80's TV shows in the same league as the typical guests on Dukes, A-Team, Fall Guy. TJ Hooker, Simon and Simon, etc.

HAZZARDJOHN

Hey My girl was Watching Primary Colors, and I saw him on that playing a political advisor. It was hilarious cause all he did was stand in the background and nod. I am sorry but he is no Pauly shore! ;D

Ben Jones was also a theater actor that's highly trained and experienced.  Sorrel Booke was a Yale graduate too, if my memory serves me right.

Theater actor is just a nice blurb to put on the resume. How many theater actors are there around the country? More than TV actors. Anyone with a community theater can become a theater actor by winning a role in East Overshoes production of "A Christmas Carole".

Mike DC

Tom Wopat's actually turned down a few decent TV jobs offered to him since the "Dukes" days.  He saved most of his money during the run of DOH and he's been living easier ever since.  He just likes doing live theater.  Ben Jones is Ben Jones.  He ain't going broke anytime soon but I think he did run out of DOH earnings a while back.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most of the "Dukes" cast strikes me as not being any better or worse than the typical aging former celebrity.  They're decent people but they like to milk their fame for money when the situation presents itself.

I think Ben Jones is probably the worst about selling himself for fame & money out of the DOH crew, followed by John Schneider next.

Tom Wopat got about all the fame & money he wanted 25 years ago, and I don't think he cares if he never sees another orange Charger as long as he lives.

Sonny Shroyer (Enos) seems like a particularly nice & humble guy.  He's not totally dumb & uncoordinated like Enos, but meeting him still feels very much like meeting his character.  (And he was actually in his mid-40s during the DOH series.  Can you believe that?)
