Fred

Can some one tell me if regular oil changes are needed for rear ends?
The Auburn Gear Installation manual says to change the oil every 7500 miles.
Is this neccessary?  I've never heard of it being done before.
What do you guys think.

I want to say it was something like every 30,000 miles or so for regular gear oil and maybe 50-100,000 miles with synthetic stuff.

Don't know bout you Fred, but if you don't follow the manufacturers suggestions, you might have problems come time for warranty. If they say so, do it. There's a reason other than they have stock in the gear oil company.

I don't go by the mileage when it comes to the 69'. I don't put enough miles a year on it to wait that long. Oil will mix with moisture over time. My car sits all winter.  My engine oil gets changed every spring whether I drove 3000 miles or 3 miles the last season. my trans fluid and gear oil is every other spring. Antifreeze gets tested yearly.  And nobody ever remembers the brake fluid. It readily absorbs moisture. If you have never flushed the brake fluid then you will be amazed at the difference fresh fluid makes when trying to stop a 2 ton car with manual brakes.

Fred

Yeah I know what you mean about the brake fluid. I change mine every 2 years without fail. The wife says it feels like I'm changing brake fluid every other week......it's her job to sit in the car and push down the peddle.
Engine oil I change every 3000miles, less than a year for me.
It was the gear oil that had me stumped.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only nut changing their brake fluid.  :2thumbs:
