383 Running Bad.Fuel Filter Half Full

I took the Charger out on my street today to see if its running ok and didn't have good results.Good thing I only drove it next door because I barely got it back in the garage.When I took it out my fuel filter was full and after it acted up it was half full.I'm wondering if my fuel pump is going bad.Seems like after I crank alot the fuel filter will be almost full them it will run and idle.It only does this when it seems to be under load.If I half throttle it,it will take off.Thats how I got it home.Soon as you let off the gas it shuts off.Anybody have this issue before?

Tank Vents, Fuel Filters, Fuel sending unit &/or screen possibly bad also, some kind of restriction in fuel supply somewere, it maybe just the pump, or filters, you should have a fuel filter before the fuel pump to keep crap out of it & before the carburetor also... Also if you haven't ever changed &/or the sending unit or in tank screen/pickup in the fuel tank, it could have a bunch of sediment/crap/rust corrosion clogging it &/or the little 5/16" fuel lines after all these decades... Just spit-balling here... Happy Moparing

It has the original tank and lines on it...I have a fuel filter before the carb..it's the clear plastic one..thanks for the help..looks like I'll have some new stuff to get.

check the length of the fuel pump pushrod , they often wear down & only 1/2 cycle the fuel pump

I was thinking that too...I guess the wear will be visible..none the less it wouldnt hurt to change it.

Mine has been doing the same thing. Does your oil smell like it has gas mixed with it? Someone said that it could be a bad fuel pump. I guess there is a rubber diaphram in there that can crack over time. I'm going to replace my fuel pump and see if it helps.

That could be it also.I'm pretty sure the pump is brand new.but it was put on new in like 95,so it may have took a crap.the engine only has hours on it.

Brand new pump on my 383 lasted maybe 20 minutes of run time. Had to install new one on the side of the road. They don't make stuff like they used to.

I guess what I'm saying is just because it is new, don't rule it out. Hell, I once put 3 "lifetime" starters in my Volare within a week.

I second that,  been thru replacing too many, new parts to count, lots of crap out there, especially the low end cheap parts store brands...
