I am still having trouble getting my HL working on my 69. All of the bulbs are good, grounds are good, replaced floor dimmer switch and HL switch. The harness plug was slightly melted when I replace the HL switch. Also I didn't replace the dash dimmer wheel. Can I buy new harness plug to replace the damaged one? The HL worked fine when I finished the resto but the problem has to be the HL/dash dimmer plug and perhaps the dash dimmer switch too.
Opinions gang?

My dimmer switch didn't do anything so I replaced it with one out of a '70 and that didn't work either, but the headlights work fine with either one so I'm sot sure the switch would be the issue.

You could replace the plug if you can find one or simply mark where each color goes and use female spade connectors.  That should do it.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

have a look at the firewall connector  , when i  put mine back together with new M&H harnesses  , the  headlights  just  stopped working one day ,  after a bit of searching  turned out to be the one of the headlight wires  female spade trrminal , tang thingy not engauged in the plastic fire wall block connector , so when fitted the HL harness , it  did not make the full push type connection , guess with heat & vibration , the connection come out completely ,   when i inspected the firewall connector three others were not engauged ( clicked into place )
be a good idea to check all , ( dash harness spade terminals   in fire wall connector))

I'll try pulling the firewall connector, clean both ends, reseat it and hope that makes this irritation go away. Piddly stuff like this makes me nuts.  :icon_smile_angry:

What would be a good contact/harness plug cleaner that won't harm my paint?

Last resort, may have to be a rewire.  :eek2:

9 times out of ten , on a wire ,  i put a new terminal on  ,  but if its not practical to do so & after wire brushing as best as i can etc , place the terminals / connections or what ever in a  sacuse pan of metal ready , then heat it up either with a hot air gun of a torch , for ten minutes ,  & leave it  few hours or  over night  sometimes  , any corrosion that is on there normall just wipes off ,  leaving clean metal ,
works for me  :Twocents: :yesnod:

second picture is what i was on about in my previous post , where  tang thingy on the terminal is not bent up high enough to snap click in  position in  fire wall block connector

On my 69 I had headlight problems that ended up being in the harness connector beside the battery. Even though it looked ok the terminals inside had corroded and were no longer making connection. I found that after checking the h/l switch, dimmer switch etc.  :brickwall:

Hope you find the problem.
