Exactly I could have bought a 98 3/4 ton V10 Ram extended cab long bed last week at the local auction had 150,000 on it for $2200.00 And it was a shame cause it was a nice truck! If that had been a Cummins everyone would have been on it and it would have brought $6500.00 (if not more)

I could not find a CLEAN 3/4 ton V10 anything for $2200 retail.   Sounds like you are able to buy wholesale?    Same with diesels.  In metro Milwaukee, the $6500 Cummins trucks are worn out junk or close to it.

The cummins I looked at for $6500 was a mess with way to many issues.  It is what it is, I reached what i felt was a good deal and got it at under blue book.  It was definetly more than $2200.  If I find a good cummins for $6500 or less I would buy it and sell the V10, but I have been looking for a couple of months and this was the best deal I found.

Prices on the older diesels are high.    A buddy recently bought a clean but not perfect '97 2500 4 x 4 to replace his '94.   He wanted the older design engine.   He had to travel to get it and paid within a few hundred bucks of what he paid for the '94 EIGHT years ago.   Talk about holding value.

They are awesome trucks  we finally retired our 97 delivery truck with over 700 k miles on it .
