Hey, guys, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this. If not please point me over to the right place. Here goes:

I know 1972 was when the industry switched over from sae gross to sae net. I understand how that has affected horsepower ratings. My question is how did that affect torque ratings? Did they become drastically lower because of lower compression or did the new system actually have an affect on the numbers because of the new standards?

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but this is just something I have always wondered about but can't seem to find any solid information on. Thanks for any info you guys can give me.

I would say, it's both less compression/overall HP/TQ & a different standard for measuring... both would contribute to the lower #s
