I sooo wish Chrysler would put more effort into engine development like Ford has done.
You know its hard to argue with 662Hp and 631 torque which is almost 200 more then the SRT.  ::) That has to be one fast car.

That's all fine and dandy but have you ever worked on a Ford DOHC V8!!!! Holy Jesus they are complicated beasts and expensive!!!! friggin' timing chain looks like a dirtbike chain and a set of (4) camshafts is over $1300.00, I guess it's fine but Ford also has a great history of OVER rating it's horsepower numbers! I remember a few years back when the Cobra came out and they did not put out nearly the HP that Ford said they did the owners got pissed and I believe some sued.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Dino

"producing peak output of 662 horsepower and 631 lbs.-ft. of torque. Ford has said it expects the car to have a top speed in excess of 200 miles per hour."

Who the hell needs that amount of power for a street car?  Some people can't keep their damn Civic on the road for crying out loud!

It's all fine and dandy when you're building an engine for the track but come on, over 200 mph?  Last time I checked there were speed limits around here.

End rant
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

"GT500"..I assume that's a "Shelby" Mustang?....I can only assume that it has possibly Supercharged as well...

Have you seen what a 528 Blown Hemi or Wedge can make? They were just born too early to be installed in a production car...Course, they'd have cost bout the same money back then, to where only the well off can afford an $850.00/month payment like this Shelby today.
Unfortunately, Ford has aimed this car at the Viper/Lingenfelter Vette/Porche/Ferarri/etc. folks.

Ford has their (fill in the blank) together compared to Chrysler. I'd take new Mustang over "charger" anyday.

say what you want about ford....     my old man is looking for a midlife crisis car...      He really wants a challenger but even as he states "Chrysler has it's head up its ass" --

SRT8 Challenger: 470hp / 470tq   =  $49,485       14/23 mpg

GT Stang: 420hp / 390tq = $42,090          18/25 mpg

Not much math needed here...     Oh - that $7,395 is mighty close to the  $7,499 for the 624hp / 536tq ford racing supercharger kit....

Oh did I mention that the mustang I priced out above was a convertible?  Yeah...       Ford has their $h!t together and is leaving Chrysler in the dust...

the ford has a supercharger im sure if you supercharge a SRT8 the numbers could come out close and the price to add one lets say 5k to the SRT8 so price wise YES the GT stang has it beat????  Yes if its charger vs stang Ill take the stang, but challenger vs stang Ill take the challeneger...damn ok maybe NOT Ill take the new stand it looks meaner.  :drool5:

I have to agree.   I keep going back and fourth about selling one of the old to get a new and as of right now, the GT 500.

Bad ass car.

guys - the GT500 mustang is like $60,000 for a vert...     I priced out a GT/CS vert in my above post...    5.0L with a six speed...   makes 420hp - that's nothing to sneeze at. For the people who say the SRT8 makes more power I threw in the fact that you can bolt on a Ford Racing supercharger for 624hp and it is 50 state legal and won't even void the warranty...

So for approx $8,000 less than a base SRT8 Challenger coupe you get a Convertible "package car" (GT/CS) with comparable HP and a much more support.

Let's compare more facts shall we?

The Stang weighs approx 3,750lbs and the SRT8 weighs 4,170lbs   (~420lbs)

Stang production plant: Flat Rock, Michigan, United States
Challenger Production Plant: Brampton, Ontario, Canada (guess these aren't imported from Detroit)

Just saying - I still love the new challengers - but Chrysler is falling down on the job.
