Too much carb for my 440?

Hey guys I have a 440 that is bored 40 over. Mopar electronic ignition. Has the Edelbrock performer rpm cam and intake. Edelbrock performer fuel pump, and an 800 cfm performer carb #1413. Not my carb size by choice, the engine builder insisted that's the carb I needed. Ever since the motor has been in the car it seems to run really rich, and when cruising around town it seems that it's loading up on gas and wants to stall. Also when I change the oil I can smell a small amount of gas in the oil. I'm just wondering if anyone knows what Edelbrock carb I should be running with the cam and intake setup I have? Or, what I would need to adjust the carb I have so it may be able to work?  Also, not sure if this makes a difference, but when the engine was built, the builder used the stock valve springs and stock rocker arms. I have been told that with the cam I have you have to use Edelbrock's valve springs, and that I should also have a set of adjustable roller rocker arms. Can anyone please help me out with these problems? Thanks!

The carb is about the right size although I would never use the Eddy carbs . It obviously need to be tuned for the combination , metering rod spring may be too stiff keeping the rods up , I always check float level as it is never right after being shipped .
Stock rocker arms should be Ok , you do not have to have adjustable arms but the springs have to be matched to the cam , stock may not be adequate spring pressure .

The Thunder series AVS or a rebuilt stock 440 AVS would have been a much better choice. The AFB can be rejetted and tuned with enrichment springs to get it closer. If you smell fuel in the oil it would be a good idea to not drive it much at all until you get it dialed in.

Edelbrock makes a calibration kit for the 1413 carburetor, part number 1480. Your carburetor should have come with an owners manual that would guide you through the tuning process.

The valve springs recommended for the cam are different than the stockers. From the 1969 service manual:

Stock Chrysler standard spring 125# @ 1.859" IH, 200# @ .422" lift

Stock Chrysler Hi Perf Spring 105# @ 1.859" IH, 245# @ .500" lift

The Edlecrock recommended Spring part number 5792 115# @ 1.885" IH, 280# @ .500" lift. These are the same springs that come on the RPM heads.

Either of the stock springs appear to be softer in open pressures than the recommended spring.

I agree that the stock rocker arms should work.
