Im rebuilding my A/C Heater box on my 68 Charger. Have the evap. out. Can't seem to get the heater core out from the other 1/2....  How does the outter pipes separate from the inner heater core pipes???
I did ck the other posts and no luck.
Any help please...

UPDATE: i heated the pipes up and they came apart. Was that the proper way???  And to put this back together, should they be heated or just pop in ? They do have o_rings...

Thanks

Chris,  Thanks for the reply. :2thumbs:
Thats the topic I found. It doesn't say how to separate the extension pipes from the core. I had to heat the tubes up with a torch to get them apart.  Within a week,  i'm going to assemble the box.
Besides the new o-rings, I quess the extension pipes just push in to the heater core? I'm not sure how they would be secure from water leaks.   Thats what I was trying to figuare out.

It's not the best of designs. Really it is only a friction fit. The heater core tubes are supported somewhat in the box and four screws keep the extension tubes in place. The only line of defence is the O-rings so be careful not to damage them. A little O-ring lube helps with the assembly. Last thing you want is to roll, pinch or tear an O-ring.

With a bit of luck I'll have my restored heater box thread up in a couple of days.
