The holley "red" pump is 110GPH and does not require a regulator. Descent pump for a street car making 500hp or less.  :yesnod:

Yep, That's what I use.  Immediate starts and one less headache.

i do get immediate starts. but after driving for awhile when i try to start it back up again it cranks awhile and sometimes i have to floor it....
i installed a fuel pressure gauge and it is is 7-8 on start up and 5-6 after warm up...
i know my pressure is ok for a 383 with cam and .10 bored out, 750 eddy.
but, is the carb the issues now. i was told put holley on or check the floats in this one first.
not a carb guy so if it needs more than that i'm lost and will probably replace it
what do you think.

Have that carb looked at.

lukedukem

yeah, i talked to a mopar nut were i live and he suggested the same thing(after he had me check fuel pressure). told me to check the floats. i did and they look good. the clearance was what the manual said 7/16 and 1. but when i took off the top it looked bad. i think the carb needs a rebuild. but gonna have to get someone else on that and then to help me tune it...   :scratchchin:

thanks for yalls help guys

You're experiencing vapor lock which results from a hot intake manifold and conductive heat to the carburator. Today's junk fuel is designed for high pressure (fuel injected) engines and is prone to boiling at low pressure when exposed to heat.  :P

I've recommended an intake manifold heat crossover blockoff and carb base insulating gasket to many members here with excellent results to alleviate this problem  :2thumbs:

i googled intake manifold heat crossover blockoff and carb base insulating gasket and just got some forums...
where can i get this fix, if it helps i have a 383, eddy manifold and eddy 750 carb.
thanks again

Just order a replacement valley pan -W- heat blocked, drill a 1/8th hole in both block-off's to let just enough heat for choke on cold days.  :2thumbs:

lukedukem

i found a intake manifold heat crossover blockoff and carb base insulating gasket on summit for like 15 bucks. the valley pan is 25. plus it would be more work and more i could screw up and i'd like to keep it simple.. but thanks again for the advice. winters are not that cold down in south texas and i have electric choke so that would help me too right?

Aluminum intakes need the heat blocked, I'm in Fl. and blocking the heat crossover solved my six pack hot restart totally.  :scratchchin: Yes with electric choke no need to drill the holes. (I'd still do it, I did.)

A phenolic spacer works wonders as well.

lukedukem

yeah, i might try that first... cheap and easy.

so firefighter3931, can you or anyone, explain this vapor lock issue to me better. my question is, when it boils the fuel is it to the point where it makes it to hot to start the car. or to th point where there is no fuel left in the carb and it has been boiled off. just wanting to know in case i'm ever needed to tell someone else. you know, so i can sound like i know what im talking about

and is this what you talking about me getting to help

That is the correct base gasket. You will also need a #1214 Felpro intake manifold gasket set to block off the heat crossover.  :yesnod:

When gas heats up enough it will boil and turn into vapor so you want to prevent that from happening by keeping the intake manifold and carb as cool as possible. An engine won't run on fumes  ;)
