Speedometer Cable Clip Problems

Guys,
I just installed the refinished gauges in my '69. The speedometer cable is new, but the plastic lip doesn't want to stay clipped into the speedometer. Am I missing something? Everytime I push it onto the housing, it stays for about 10 seconds and then slips back off. I've tried it about 5 times now and it won't stay despite even trying to clamp it in several ways... any advice, suggestions, etc are appreciated.

Thanks all.

Can you hear a "snap" when you push the cable onto the speedo? If not, the plastic tang isn't engaging the hole in the speedo. Check to make sure the plastic tang isn't broken off or the hole plugged up.

Also, if the inner cable core is too long it can prevent the plastic end from going all the way on.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

You beat me to it. I was going to say exactly the same thing (although not word for word) but there's no point now.   :D

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

Where did you get the speedo cable from? I got one from year one that would not clip on no matter what I did. So I tossed it and got one from mancini racing and it fit perfectly.

I can't get it to snap at all. I bought it from YearOne and am having the same problem it sounds like. I bought it back 6 months ago or so, I wonder if they'll return it. I may just have to try the Mancini one.
