Pseudo Vectors or Torq-Thrusts on a General Lee...?

Vector wheels are too expensive and not easy to find at affordable prices right now. My car isn't going to be a General Lee forever either (I do like the vectors and the car could always work as a death proof sort of clone without the Convoy duck on the hood) but I'll live with the GL looks for now, I'm having my fun with it.

HOWEVER I need some new tires...

I can either stay with these pseudo Vectors...or go with 17 up front, 18 in the back, torq-thrust with black inside and chrome lip....hmm....opinions? just curious.

I think the tires are what looks a bit odd there. The profile is too small and the tires are too narrow for the rim, they look stretched.

When I had my General I drove it for about 4 years with Keystone Klassics before I decided to actually find some Vectors and put them on. Do what you want. Nobody will care they are not Vectors except the diehard DOH fans.

I usually like Turbine/Hurricane wheels, but something don't look quite right with those, like the offset isn't right or something. I would go with torque thrusts, if you are not planning on keeping it a General. When you de-general it, what would you take for the brush guard?

I find it hard to see how you could go wrong with the Torque Thrusts. That being said I also love the old school slotted mags. 

The Vectors are sweet too. What are we talking about as far as a price difference between your different options?

Go with the torque thrusts in 18s and 17s. I dont know about the black centers though? I like the chrome or gun metal look with and orange car.

i like vectors but im not liking those. im a firm believer in 15" wheels on a muscle car. i cant get into that 17&18" stuff.

Keep your fake vectors because they, like my wanna-be vectors, look better than actual vectors, IMO.  Then, get the torq thrusts, even though every other muscle car on this planet is running them.  Why?  Because they just look great and I think you'll grow out of the GL thing soon enough.  Check out the wheel and tire thread in the forums, I caught a lot of good ideas in there for 17" wheels and accompanying tire sizes.

Now don't take this the wrong way but the wheels and tires on your car look.......I dunno, different to me.  Is it the offset?  Aspect ratio of the tire sidewall?  I dunno...

yeah the car came like that and it looks not right to me as well. I take no offense, I've done nothing to the car except change the battery and clean out the super clogged with crap carburetor (it needs a rebuild though, the kit should be coming in any day now).

the wheels all have adaptors as they're not direct fit and they're from a dodge truck according to a friend of mine. They stick out too much and the black paint around them is pretty cheap looking in person, the paint doesn't look too bad in photos though. It looks really goofy, glad many of you see that too.

the car won't be de-generalized for at least a few years, as I'm concentrating on all the mechanical stuff first. Thankfully this car won't need much major work in that regard but I'm concentrating on recharging the AC, rebuilding the carb, adding disc brakes, look into better front end suspension stuff, all while I drive it-all my Chargers have been made to be daily drivers. I'm digging the 318 way more than I ever thought I would, the gas mileage I'm getting is pretty sweet despite the carb and the crappy tires. I've always been more of a cruiser, that still doesn't deter me from doing a 5.7/6.1 swap one day . I'm not used to being told how it's much quieter than the other ones though haha or how they can't hear me coming like before but that's allright.

Eventually I'll tackle the body work and that's when the car will be de-generalized, as it's going to need bottom rear fender work, dings here and there throughout the body straightened out, trunk pan replaced, rear floor to be patched properly.

If those are decals it should only take you a little while to remove them with a heat gun.

had been looking for another 68-69 Charger for months...found this one for the right price, didn't expect the seller to go for my low ball offer-then once I saw the car up close, I was able to deal a little bit more. It just happened to be done on the exterior like a General Lee.

No lie, I really am having fun with it. All the other Chargers always got attention but the attention the General Lee gets is INSANE. So far it's been nothing but positive and I get a kick out of people's reactions. Doesn't matter the age, race or sex, setting aside the quality of the show, it's a pop culture icon that's very much ingrained. I'm not hating on the show with that statement-I loved it as a kid, can't really watch it much as an adult other than for the vintage cars haha but the way people flip out, take pictures, give props...so far it's been fun.

I figure by the time I go into body work, I'll be "over it" and thats when I'll go for a different look.

Haha I agree with all of that, that's how I feel about it.  Hey if you're having a ball whit it then by all means leave it as is but I would go for actual 10 spokes vectors in that case.  If you can find them and afford them it's the way to go, you'll get your money back and maybe then some when you sell them later on.

Looks to me your existing wheels are too wide for the tires. And, the tires might have too small a profile for the wide wheels.
Not the biggest fan of torque thrusts, but yes I'd have to agree they would be an improvement.

mY  is find a decent set of vectors and pay the price to get the right ones. I know a few guys on here may have a set sitting around. Even if you find Chevy bolt patern, have them machined correctly and you'll have your set. The vector rims look bad ass on these cars GL or no GL.  Good luck no matter what you do.

Unfortunately it's just not in the budget the way they're priced right now, even the really used and beat up ones. I'm able to get brand new torq-thrust II type wheels, with nitto tires for much, much less.

I do like the way the vectors look.

Glad you found another one. Just out of sheer curiosity, what did you do with the remains of the white car? Insurance take it? Scraper? Still have it for parts?
