Question for Secret Audio owners

I'm thinking about putting a Sectret Audio hidden stereo in my '69 Dart vert. They claim 200W (4x50 watts). My experience is that the power ratings on car stereos is usually pretty over-rated. This car will need some decent stereo power to be worthwhile with the top down. Do you guys like the stereo as-is or do you think it needs an amp added? I don't want major distortion when the volume goes up.
Thanks

I just wrote a whole thesis reply for you and my fricken comp died and i lost it  :brickwall:

So long story short, to get any decent sound quality you will need a sub, amp, head unit, and speakers...i assume your going with just 6x9s in the rear as you dont want to cut up your kick panels or doors?

You wont get anything damn near decent from just speakers, newer cars with there 6+ speakers systems are a different ball game.

I did this with my charger and with my e30, the charger was a bit of a mismatch of stuff but sounded good (now its in pieces anyways) the BMW i thought it out more and got a nice box, sub, amp, and speakers and i gotta say....is excellent and its still kind of mismatched with the rear 6x9's doing all the work while the front 5" speakers really do nothing, but it sounds really good for what it is.

I have it combined with two amps: one for just the subs and another for the cabin speakers consisting of 2 6x9's, 2 6-1/2" speakers in the doors, and 2 tweeters in the pillars. The door/tweeter speakers also have a crossover. Amps & speakers are all top of the line Alpine stuff.

Effing cranks. No distortion. I sometimes just bypass the subs as well for low-volume listening.
Very happy with the setup, and well worth the money if you don't want to cut anything up. It's about the price of a decent head unit these days, anyway. The hand-held remote is also well thought out & convenient.

There are a few guys on here with just the Secret Audio installed with no power add-ons, so maybe they will chime in here as well.

Top 'o the day gentlemen! I have a SecretAudio system in my 69 and it's plenty powerful for me without amps, crossovers etc and I love crankin' my Zep, Stones, Marshall Tucker Band, oldies etc. Granted my car is a hardtop non A/C and with the windows down it can get pretty noisy. For me the solution was the most efficient speakers I could buy. After a lot of research and spec comparisons, I installed 2 Polk 5x7's in the package tray and 6" speaks in the doors (holes were already there). I can't tolerate super loud thumping trunk/hood vibrating tunes. Why do people insist you listen to their tunes?  :shruggy: To each their own. I want to hear my 440 in all it's glory.  :Twocents:
