So my newest project has been sitting since mid 80's when owner took out underside pan with rocks. I knew the engine might be froze up when I got it.
Pilled the head today, and the sludge mess came pouring out. Cylinder walls caked with rusty gunk and all.

Question - Any thing I can do to get it to turn? Oil, lubicant etc let it sit??

I want to get the engine out, need to diconnect tranny flex plate:
Drop pan, discinnect pistions from crank?

I guess what is best way to get my flex plate disconnected so I can pull it?

Figure someone has been donw this road before, appreciate your insight.

Here is pic btw.

I would undo the trans bolts & slide the trans off both the engine & torque converter then pull the engine with the converter attached

Dang....yep that would be easy way...seems pretty obvious now that you said it.....thanks...I know what I will be doing tomorrow!

Sometimes you look at a problem so long, you get too focused on the hard details...

terrible one

Then I would remove the crank and free each piston/rod assembly individually, a good day's soak of penetrating oil then knock them out hitting top of piston with plastic mallet or a piece of wood, you will be able to get a grip on the rod and use a twisting motion as well which can help. Good luck!  :2thumbs:

put a pan under the torque converter when you pull it with the engine..it's gonna piss all over the floor and K-frame when it comes out of trans

ACUDANUT

pull the engine out with the transmission attached.

When I bought my '69, the engine was out of the car in a corner of the guy's garage, where it sat for 15 years. All the moisture in there didn't help. It was stuck. I pulled the heads, The cylinders had some rust. I kept spraying the cylinders almost daily with PB Blaster. It turns freely now. Some of the valves were rusted open too. Lots of lubricant, and they move freely now. I would clean the gunk out of the cylinders, take some Scotch Brite pads to the walls (it will probably need an overbore anyway) and soak soak soak. After about a week, try turning the crank back and forth slowly. It may take a while. Unless you are in a hurry to get it apart.

Let me add - Harbor Freight sells Evapo Rust in gallon containers. This stuff is nothing short of miraculous. Pour some in each cylinder and let it work. I've used it on parts that I thought were junk because they were rusted and unusable (My AVS being one of them) and this cleaned them right up.
