Hi Guys,

been thinking for a while to put on some pins thru the hood of my 70s charger to get more of an "race" look. Some earlier owner has already ruined the hood with a badly cut hole for the scope so i thought it would be fun to try it out before i got a new hood

Now, i have a few different thoughts about how to get it done properly but i need some tips and tricks from someone who have done it on their charger, maybe take som pics ( under the hood) would be great so i can get it right!

Something like this i had in mind (Image from google)

If you are looking to do a factory type addition I don't recall much info out there. This is a link to a factory installed 69, not sure if the 70 follows suit though? The hood pins option (J45) is apparently quite rare.

Spend some time mocking it up though. I have seen several cars where they have added them in places that look out of place IMHO.  I think the factory position looks good.  :Twocents:

Is this what you're looking for when you say "under the hood" photo?  Stock location for '69 Daytona and '70 Charger hood pins, this is the passenger's side.

There are "cut out" in the hood sub frame where the hood pins come thorugh if you use the stock location pictured above.  Center of these and you should be good to go.  Be sure and GET ACCESS TO A SET OF GREENLEE punches to put the holes in the hood right.  Hole saws don't get it.  Good luck.

Thats where i did mine and used chalk to mark entry hole.  the hardest part was cutting holes in a new hood.    oh well love the look

Personally, I don't like the stock location at all.  Prefer them mounted much more forward on the grill support and a little more centered.   A suggestion; after you figure out placement, mount the pins and put a dollop of grease on top of them.  Then you gently lower the hood and make contact – the grease spot will show you where to make the starter hole.

I decided to do a search and found this too:

I have some pictures, but I have to find them. I have hood pins mostly installed on my '70 as well (fiberglass hood, but stock looking), and I wanted to figure out the lanyards.

This might be a good time to pull these pictures out and figure out my own situation...

thanks guys, got a few ideas, I think the "original" look is a bit far up the hood but otherwise it might look wierd

My car is an original 70 J45 hood pin option car.  She didn't have her pins on when I bought her and the hood must have been replaced at some point because I had to drill the holes.  Here are some pics.
