Howdy, I've got BFG 295/50/15's  on a 10'' Magnum & 245/60/15's on 8'' and I'm looking around for options for a better handling and performing tyre
Anyone got any recommendations?

I found this link, but hard to know whats better or worse   :shruggy:

What else is out there that will fit on my rims?

I run the same size US made Hercules on 8 1/2 rears Bob.
Hard compound, they smoke well (when you want them to) and hard wearing too.
Mine have 9000 miles on them and look near new in the tread department.

You cant be pasting them hard enough then Doc  :smilielol:

How about handling and sticking to the road? BFG's arent known for being great wet weather tyres ( amongst an informal poll of my mates  :D ) One dude got home at 3am after an anxious step out in his 67 Cougar, jacked it up and took the BFG's off until he could get someting better..
I dont mind spending the fun coupons but I want the best road holding tyres for the dough. Granted, the options are limited up there in 15'' balloon land but this car makes more poke than the last one did...

Mine have been good in the wet and the dry so far.
After saying all that, I googled Hercules Tires and found some bad reviews out there.

I'll never buy T/A's again.
They aquaplaned on me severley once and since then I don't trust them.

I have the M/T Sportsmans on my Cragars.  Nice & quiet tire.  No experiance with them in the wet though...try to avoid that situation in the Charger ;)

A wide tire like that will hydroplane. Hell, any tire that wide will before a narrower tire will.

Its a very well known thing in Australia, any old dude in a tyre shop would tell ya, you should of known T/A are shit "bloody dangerous" in the wet, other than that a good looken tyre easy to get hold of thats used on plenty of muscle cars.

Is it any wonder that the last set I bought was in 1984?

Because of your recommendation, I bought mine. LOVE them... Absolutely LOVE the look... It's funny though, going from a drag radial to these.. I can blaze my tires rolling at 50MPH now where before it'd grip and GO... But, I got asked again today "How tough was the mini-tub to install"  :smilielol:

On the list you provided, aside from the drag radials, only the Maxxis MA-S1 Marauder has an H speed rating. All the others are S or T. Higher speed ratings typically mean softer compounds which will not last as long, but will provide better grip. The only other widely available H rated tire that is reasonably affordable is the Mickey Thompson S/R series, which did not appear on your list.

If you want V or Z rated 15" tres, they are out there too, but are going to run you around $400-500 per tire. They are made by Michelin and Avon and WILL NOT turn up in any regular search engine because they are so specialized.

Otherwise, everything on that list is better than BFG hockey pucks.

Nope, honest.. just a funky angle.. Here are a couple more.. Just the TTI stainless tips.. Nothing back there..

But man do I LOVE the look of the 295's up back.. Thanks for the suggestion!!

And even going through Boston in the rain (after leaving the World Of Wheels) sideways, they still look cool :)
