I'm shrinking

I went to the doctor the other day, I have back problems from a real bad wreck I was involved in back in the 80's {I was in my 20's} on the 680 frwy just before, Lafayette Calif. west bound in traffic, {really bad congestion in that area} the traffic had stopped & 2 vans that were carrying full loads carpeting were racing each other to their next job & sandwiched me in a wreck {the Power Wagon was the only vehicle to drive away}, I was wearing my seat belt in my 78 Power Wagon, the force was so much I hit my head on the windshield, stretching the seat belt & compressed a couple of vertebra's & disc's in my back & knocked my shoes off my feet across the 4+ lane frwy {they were high top fully laced up tennis shoes}... Any way I was measured that day I am 52 now & only 6'-1/4", I was 6'-2" in my prime, it's been quite a while since I was at the doctor & been measured, I was completely shocked to find out my disc's & 2 vertebrae have compressed that much to loose almost 2"s in height, I'm becoming the increadable shrinking man, Doc said I'm OK for now, but may need surgery latter on in life... That really sucks...

I've lost 3/4" over the years. Could be due to back injuries since I've had L3/L4 disc problems, according to an MRI and the excruciating pain associated with that. I'll say this, if I could be 4'10" and not go through that pain again I'd take the 4'10" in a heartbeat. That sucked.

My dad had a similar problem from a neck/bad injury.

I asked him if he had any advice...

I used to be 6'1.5"  and now I measure in at 6'1....   so I've lost about 1/2" myself due to a lower back injury

My 23yo girlfriend (shut up, she was hitting on me) is having some vertebrae fused this summer to straighten her spine.  Doc says she's probably gonna come out taller.

Aside from injuries, in general you do  shrink with age. It's just wear and tear. Nothing to be alarmed about or at least, nothing you can do about it.
Chin up!  :yesnod:

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

I thought that this might have been a thread about swimming in cold water.

Fred

Swimming in cold water aside..................it's probably the only thing that doesn't shrink as you get older.  :D

You could always have leg lengthening surgery done to get that height back.   :o

Man 'grows' six inches taller after limb-lengthening surgery
Washington, Feb 25 (ANI):

A man in the US has undergone two costly procedures to increase his height by six inches. At five foot, six inches, the New Yorker, who goes by the name Apotheosis, was shorter than the average American male and very unhappy about it. So he did something other men who feel short might consider unthinkable: he opted for costly, painful surgeries to make himself "grow" a total of six inches.

"I realized that the world looked at me a certain way that I didn't look at myself in that certain way," ABC News quoted the 37-year-old, who only goes by his pseudonym in online forums, as saying. "I wanted the way I felt about myself and the way the world felt about me to be similar," he said.

Apotheosis is just one of a growing number of men pursuing limb-lengthening procedures for cosmetic reasons. Dr Dror Paley, a renowned orthopedic surgeon at the Paley Institute at St Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, performed 650 leg-lengthening surgeries last year.

Most of his patients have severe deformities or dwarfism, but he also sees cosmetic patients. "The majority who come for cosmetic limb lengthening have what we call, height dysphoria. They're unhappy with their height," Paley said. He added that therapy has little effect on changing a patient's views. "It's one of the few psychologic-psychiatric disorders that you can actually cure with the knife," he said.

Only a few doctors, including Paley, perform the procedure in the United States. Surgeons break the leg bone in two and implant a state-of-the-art telescopic rod into the middle of the broken bones which then pulls the bone apart very slowly, about one millimeter a day. New bone grows around it and tissues like the muscle, the nerves, the arteries, and the skin, regenerate as well.

At about 85,000 dollars, it is expensive lengthy process. It takes at least three months to complete it and requires demanding and excruciating physical therapy.

No thanks,  :slap: I'm not looking forward to the surgery I will need later in life, let alone a surgery I don't really need... Like someone said   :hah: "gravity always wins"...
