Has anybody ever won anything worthwhile...............something they've been really pleased with?

My Aunt won a pair of shoes in a raffle once, she was so happy until she realised they weren't her size!!

She solved the problem by stuffing newspaper into the toes.

I've won a few radio contests, a few trophies at car shows, but the crown jewel for me was the wife. SHE is the single greatest prize that I can ever claim. :2thumbs:

Fred

Mine too...................better than any lotto win. I wouldn't trade her for the world or even 20 charger's

But I mean like a raffle prize.

When I was a kid I won a Neil Diamond record and several bags of Dorito's and 2 liters of pop from a radio station. We had just pulled into the parking lot of the store when they announced it on the radio to be the first person in the store to contact them to win. I jumped out and ran in and won!!!!!!

Better to be lucky in love than lucky in gambling.   A happy home life is what it's all about.   :2thumbs:

I win radio station comps all the time.
Grand here, few hundred there...
Movie tickets and CDs have been a regular thing too.
I also won a V8 supercar racing helmet autographed by a number of famous drivers once.
Since it didn't have Brock's signature I flogged it on ebay for a nice sum.
The funds went into my Charger not long after I bought it.
I guess there's some merit in listening to obscure radio stations and drinking VB.
Not a lot of competition out there lol
Gotta love a '69

Maybe so but the lottery is cheaper.   :yesnod:

I've won 4 numbers in the Texas lotto probably half a dozen times. Prizes ranged from $89 to I think $118 each time. I also won a pair of Cleveland Browns tickets a couple years ago which was pretty cool. I had never been to a Pro football game so I took my brother and had a great time.

God must love stupid people; He made so many.

I won a Lassie book when I was very little in a drawing contest.  I also won a body man contest when I was in my last year ('92) so I went home with a lot of tools, and I mean a lot!

A few years ago I started to play some contests on online-sweepstakes.com.  First thing I won was a book called about a guy trying to find an answer for every question his young son had for him, no matter how stupid.  I then entered some contests in the musical instrument section and immediately won second place in a Santana contest (wife is a pretty big fan).  I won autographed hats, t-shirts, cd's and some more stuff.  Everything but the tickets that the first prize winner got.

I used to do a lot of these contests and one time got quite the surprise!  I just got home on a Friday afternoon when my doorbell rings.  I open the door and there's this big box sitting there with 'Gibson' on the side.  My wife's still at work, my first thought is, she bought me a guitar!  Quickly I realize there's no way she would do that, she's already asking me while I own so many guitars if I can only play one at a time.

I take the box in, open it up and it's a brand new Gibson Explorer in a hard shell case.  Dark cherry mahogany body and pretty hot pickups.  Only then did I realize I won one of the contests I entered months ago.  I never got an email or a letter saying I won, this thing just showed up.

I played it for twenty minutes, decided the neck profile fit my hand perfect so made a note to build a guitar with the same profile.  Also decided that I really don't like the shape of these things nor the fact I can't play anything soft on it, the pickups were just too much.  Figured I'd put it on CL to see if anyone had any interest and said highest offer by next week takes it.  Sold it for $900.

Haven't won anything since.   :icon_smile_big:

When I was about eight yrs. old, I won won a MULE-that's right, a mule in a grocery store drawing. Worthwhile? I thought it was pretty cool. Life in the '50's was a lot simpler then.

Won a bicycle when I was 7, thought I was the shit winning something like that!!  Won some at the Casino but not much, Grandfather won $25,000 there last year on a $5.00 slot machine (lucky old coot!)
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

nh_mopar_fan

I've won a few things over the years.

I won VIP tickets and dinner with Los Lobos at Legal Seafood in Boston prior to their show.

Front row and back stage passes for Blondie.

More concert tix than I can recall.

The best would be a week trip to Italy. Airfair, hotel and a million lire spending cash. That was pretty neat. They let me pick anywhere I wanted to go and let me add days to the trip (at our expense) We ended up doing 10 days in Florence, Milan, Pisa, and Rome.

If I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

Old Moparz

Never won much, but then again, I don't really gamble so I don't have a good chance at it from the start.

Things I recall winning......

Door prize at a winter meet in a car club I joined around 1980. It was a poster of Miss Direct Connection that's probably still rolled up inside the tube & in my attic.

$35 in the lottery once & a handful of free tickets from scratch offs.

I also won a free wall safe for sitting through a boring, full of crap time share seminar in the Poconos. The worst part was the wall safe was a fake electrical outlet.   :smilielol:

2011 SCCA Southeast Road Racing Championships, Improved Touring S class.  Beat about 70 competitors in a 30 or so long race series from March to October at VIR, Roebling Road, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Road Atlanta, Carolina Motorsports Park, Barber International Raceway, Nashville Superspeedway, Daytona, Sebring, Homestead and Palm Beach International.   Best six results counted, and I had five wins -- 1 at VIR, 3 at Roebling and one at Charlotte going into the final double points championship race.  3 of us had a shot at the title, I beat the other two guys head to head and won the championship.

I race a 1980 TR8, do all the work myself except for building the motor (and I've built one, just send this out now for best results), welding and body work.  Race against Acura Integra GSRs, 2nd Gen Mazda RX7s, Porsches 944s, Mazda Miatas, Datsun 240/260/280zs, NIssan 240sxes, NIssan 300zxes, BMW 325is, Alfa Romeo Milanos, etc.

Come on Tilar, one day you'll meet Miss Right and you'll make her Mrs. Right and you'll live happily ever after.

I have won lots of rounds Drag Racing over 30+ years, never a National event though... Won some smaller races in Winged Sprints & Nostalgia drag racing, for some kind of worthless Plaques or Trophy's... Lots of crappy stuff from small raffles... I got 5 of 6 numbers on a Calif. State Lottery $200+ million, some stupid number of people, also got 5 out of 6 numbers, we each only got like $69, I think it ended up to be  :brickwall:...  :hah: I thought I was going to be kind of rich or at least a windfall of cash, previously 5 out of 6 were in the $100K range & a bunch of my close friends & women came over for a pool party, pizza & a keg of beer or drinks, so I lost money in the long run, I had a good time doing it though.... Oh I forgot a "Closest to the pin contest" at a Hogans tour Golf tournament & won a set of $1000 Ping Irons, I am in the Golf business so it was no big deal... I have won a few Golf tournaments also but I actually earned them & paid taxes on them..
