Have you ever been banned or locked out from a web forum?

I remember a few names of members here that used to put up a lot of posts, then POOF! They were gone. I'll refrain from naming names. Some forums frown on mentioning the dead. On FABO and Moparts, I use the tag " Frankenduster" as it refers to the 74 Duster that I converted to look like a 71 340 clone. I sold that car but kept the name.
I was banned from Moparts last week for letting my better sense take a break. I stupidly made a politically themed post and got my pee pee slapped for it. The problem that I have with that site is that the moderators there will strike without warning and give zero explaination. The rules are pretty vague and the limits aren't very clear until you cross them. You screw up, they delete the post and you have no idea of any wrongdoing until you try to log on again, then find that you have been banned. There was a post today asking where I have been. I'm locked from posting, but not from viewing. While I will be the first to admit that I can be a pain,  I HAVE tried very hard to help to people with their tech questions. I have no kids to pass along my experiences or knowledge, so these forums are a sort of "Information vault" for the present and future Mopar enthusiasts. To dump someone permanently seems excessive. The mods here have a much fairer approach. In the year and a half that I have been here, I've been warned twice about my behavior. I deserved it both times, and I have learned from it. I spend more time on these web forums when construction jobs slow down, like the past 4 years!! Yes, I am aware that the solution to my problem is simple: Don't break the rules and you won't have trouble. Hey... I'm human and sometimes make dumb mistakes. I'm learning from them. I bounce around the forums and like every one of them for different reasons. I'd be just as bent if I were banned from this site.
This post was twofold: I wanted to thank the mods of this site for being more tolerant and forgiving, and ALSO.... Have you ever been warned, banned or locked from a web forum? What are your stories?

Fred

No but I did get locked out of my car once................my own fault, I locked the keys inside. (daily driver of course)

Since this is the only forum I'm a member of .(or have ever been a member of).......................I had no idea that some forums are so strict.

p/s  3 strikes  and you're out!

FRANKENDUSTER!!!!! WHAT'S UP.....how long is your ban for?

Yep I've been banned from Cherokeeforums for not playing nice and hurting the 16 year olds on that forum. The part that supposedly sent me over with the mods was a kid spray painted a grand Cherokee flat black and stenciled "break the law" on the passenger side and "pioneer" on the drivers side. I asked him how much Meth he does everyday. He tried to flame me but I won the war. Well a mod didn't like me doing that to his buddy and banned me for a month.

On the other site don't worry I noticed because of all the drama going on its lost alot of good members that had alot of valuable information and knowledge about mopar and that's sad.

I will be the first to admit that I can be extreme. I used to be a real ass in regards to correcting peoples grammar. There was a BIG thread against me on Moparts for that very thing. Since then, my eyes were really opened and I have kept a lid on my comments on every forum I frequent. I  have since admitted to myself that it is neither respectful nor proper to treat people that way. Even old dogs can learn, right?
I have no problem with mods stepping in when they see a bad situation brewing. Every "society" needs some form of policing. Just like real life though, the laws should be fair. I never threatened anyone, never used creative ways to post obscene language, never posted obscene pictures, never critcized the mods and never advocated any illegal activity. I've never added political language to my signature as others have done and continue to do. My offense reminds me of a guy that divorces his wife because dinner was cold. :shruggy:

Thanks TX for your words. I KNEW that I wasn't the only one. I haven't forgot the fact that YOU were one of the ones that came to my defense in that "Grammar police" thread. I don't know how long I'm banished. I emailed Doc Fiberglass 2 weeks back. He was banned permanently along with Oldman. There was a guy here that used to post ......".Won't be down for breakfast" obituaries all the time. He was canned after some offensive post but I don't recall what it was.

Geez Red, I was just going to compliment you on your perfect grammar when I read............. "I haven't forgot the fact that YOU were one of the ones that came to my defense"
It should read........... haven't forgotten. I know you won't be offended for my pointing this out to you after all you can't learn from your mistakes if no one sets you straight!!   :yesnod: :D

The only ones I get banned from are the political forums. I can't imagine why but once you spank a couple liberal asses they just don't love you anymore.  :shruggy:

My favorite ones are on Facebook though... My record time to get banned from a liberal political group on there is 18 minutes.

I got banned from an Auburn football website, for pouring salt in their wounds after the 2011 Iron Bowl. But hey, I was just trolling anyways.

Once people learn that you cannot 'win' a religious or political debate the banning will go down quite a bit.  These are very touchy subjects with pretty much black and white opinions.  The ones attacking the liberals are just as guilty as the ones attacking the conservatives and I'm sick and tired of reading about it every damn day.  (not just here btw).

This is a friggin' car forum, leave the other bs for the bs forum!  Your political or religious opinions mean jack to me and my opinions should mean jack to you.  If I want to get into a fight I cannot win, I'm sure there's places for that.

Being banned because you went a little overboard on someone for whatever reason can happen to anyone, that's why you get a warning, maybe two if you get lucky, but beyond that you may get banned.  Sometimes you need to step back and look at what you are doing, see if it's worth it.  Pick your battles wisely and you will find you stop looking for them after a while.

I start posts every now and then that I decide to cancel because I know it's not going to do anyone any good.  I can reply to posts here everyday that are so full of it it makes me boil over but who am I to try to convince someone else just because I disagree with someone?  Focus on what you are on the forum for.  Stick to cars here, too many people have left because of all this bs.  I did too at one point and I'd like to stick around this time.

There, I'll shut up now.  Gonna see what's happening in the paint and body section, still pretty civil there.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

I have never been banned or even warned on any site, even though I am sure I have been close.

I stay away from Moparts.  Once a year I may run through the classifieds, but that is it.

I am a member of Glenn Becks forum, so I am able to get all my political crap out there.

If you can dish it out, you should be able to take it. I CAN take it. I'll take critcism as an opportunity to learn. I've been bashed before and while the first reaction is to deny and retaliate, MOST of the time I step back to review. Sometimes it is hard to imagine how your words can be interpreted any way other than how YOU see it. Its just like how something that is funny as hell to one guy can also get zero response from the next guy. In the past year, I have made over 3500 posts on 3 web forums. A man with that kind of post record is bound to have a little fallout.
Tilar: I like your attitude.
Fred: Feel free to tease me about grammar. If I had a booger hanging off of my nose, I'd like the opportunity to clean up before anyone else sees it!
Jaak: Although I have read it before, Can you define "Trolling"? I honestly do not know the definition.
Thanks everyone for responding. I appreciate all responses, nice or otherwise.

Fred

Trolling...............The art of deliberately, cleverly, and secretly pissing people off, usually via the internet, using dialogue.

Well see those two (unless I wasn't paying attention) didn't really have anything to contribute to others. Oldman was just to annoy people and didn't have anything to offer. Also Doc was the same way and just was there to TypE AnOyInG AnD WEiRd PiStInG. People like Allen Galant, ECS, Black Sheep (he wasn't banned but left), and others were banned or left because of all the drama and constant (from I would say 6 people) negativey had real and correct information to help out others. Stay in touch with me buddy and if need you can use my account if needed to pm people.

This is why I stay away from Moparts all together. I can't stand that f*ckin' place. The people suck, the board sucks, etc.

uppity bastids.
However, I have almost 10K posts on another forum and have gotten in some pretty good pissing contests before, but haven't been banned yet. Don't really care if I do as I look at it as their loss if I do. Afterall, it's hard enough to get  REAL advice from ACTUAL mechanics on these damn boards anyway.
Most give advice under the banner  of trying to help, but haven't ever picked up a wrench. Only stating what they themselves have read on other boards/magazines.

Yes, I have been "Forced to explore other options" on other boards. That's a better way of putting "Banned".

Ditto. Then I back up, look at what is the point, and decide it gains me nothing. Ultimatly the web is full of arm chair quarterbacks and psuedo know it alls. No sense in arguing with either.

I never argue, I simply explain why I'm right.   :yesnod:

Old Moparz

Never been banned anywhere, but I did send a PM to an administrator once on a music forum & request that my account be deactivated. (Self banned, maybe?.....lol) That forum had many sub-forums, including current events, off topic, & political. I never got into any heated arguments, but one nuclear energy topic I started came close, although it still remained somewhat civil. There were several members that liked to troll & start fights for whatever reason, & one of those trolling members was actually a moderator who led the troll patrol. They liked to target several people that were long time members who weren't trouble makers.

I knew, & had become friends with some of those that were targeted & got sick of it, so I decided to step in & call out the trolls & the a-hole mod for being a-holes. They obviously didn't like it, & it became a huge pissing match that I decided wasn't worth the aggravation, so I left along with a few others. When the lunatics run the asylum the fun factor disappears. About a month later I found out that the admin removed that trolling mod as a mod, & he never returned. Seems that the rest of the troll patrol who kissed his ass left also since the admin wouldn't tolerate their BS & let them use the forum as their playground anymore.

Anyone who gets banned on DC.com must be a complete ass & deserve it. Troy & the mods here are pretty laid back & extremely fair. There aren't many rules, & the ones in place aren't at all unreasonable.   :Twocents:

Hmmmm.... I guess I was banned from Moparts at one point since I could not post and my "generic" resto questions I posted in the A12 / Resto forum kept getting deleted or moved to the general Q&A section and when I complained, they said that I was posting stuff in the A12 / Resto forum where the questions were not about A12 cars.  My reply was I was asking about correct colors and such for suspension which A12 cars have the SAME lower control arm color, torsion bar color, etc but because I worded it for my "lowly charger" my posts kept disappearing.  Since then, I've mainly been a troll over there and only post when I really feel the need to or when I know I can help someone else who is starting out with a little more knowledge than they had before.

I also had a lot of posts deleted over at the AACA.org forum due to posting about a certain brake and shock resto place in NY (rotten apple)     They said I was bashing the vendor when all I was doing was posting my experiences and what the conversations were.  Funny thing is, that people who praised Apple Hydraulics had their posts left up while all of the negative comments and experiences got deleted.  The thread finally disappeared entirely also when I question the administrator about it and threatened to sue them because they were allowing people to post positive experiences yet anyone that posted a negative experience got immediately deleted.  Its funny how some people cater to those who give them money or advertise with them. :rotz:
