Map light harness question

Where does it plug in? If anyone has a pic of an M&H harness that includes the map light section I'd love to see it. Apparently I didn't know enough to ask for a map light harness to be included in my dash harness. I hope there's a place to plug it in. Does it have something to do with the ash tray wiring?

Also, Does M&H even sell this harness? I can't find it on Year One.

map light is not part of the dash harness  ,
as far as i can remember  ,
one wire goes to fuse box
other wire  goes to door pin switches (yellow)

I called M&H tech to ask about it and the guy said they don't make that harness. I've pretty much figured it out but there's a mystery about a three-prong female plug. The M&H harness has that yellow wire that runs all the way across the bottom of the dash frame to the right door switch but totally bypasses the map light. The original map light harness incorporates the door switch wire, at least the factory tape is wrapped around both. The M&H guy said there's probably a piece of that harness they can't get new so they aren't making it. I may be able to replace just the old wiring once I figure out what goes where.

Bull,
Maybe this will help?  It's a write up I did on the 70 site for when I added A01 to my car last year.  In the 70's, the dash harness has a female bullet connector for the maplight harness.  The maplight harness is an extra option harness and neither M&H nor Bill Evans make it, you have to find it used.  On the maplight harness are three connections for the light fixture itself, and two to the car.  The bullet connection to the dash harness which on a 70 ties it into the door switches, and a fuse box connection (pink).

Thanks. You mentioned pics in that thread but I don't see any. Did they disappear or am I looking in the wrong place? I guess my membership there has lapsed because I couldn't log in. Maybe that's the problem. :shruggy:

Yup, that was it. I guess I got flushed since I hadn't logged on there in quite a while.

I'll post pics of mine this afternoon because my harness has a three plug connector mixed in there too. I haven't cut the tape off it yet so that plug may not be part of the map light setup.

Ok, so let me see if I've got this right; the yellow wire with the male bullet plug on one end and the square plug on the other is for the door switch, the pink wire runs from the fuse block to the light socket for power and the other yellow wire runs from the switch (female bullet) and into the tape before it doubles back and goes to the other side of the light socket. Does that sound right? As I said, mine has that three-spade plug mixed in there too so I'm wondering if it has something to do with the ash tray. Not sure but I don't see where it plugs in.

Here's mine. The yellow wire that goes out of the frame is the door switch, the double pink wires go to the fuse block with one powering the switch and the other going to the three-spade mnystery plug, the socket and female bullet plug go to the switch (I believe). Bleh, I'm tired of thinking right now... Good night.

BananaDan

That is quite different from a 70 setup.  Sorry, I don't know what the three-pronged plug goes to.

Is it a time delay relay maybe? Do 68s have those?

BananaDan

Probably, makes sense.  On a 70 that is on a separate harness.

Looking at the schematics for my 68 I see it shows a time delay relay but it's only got two wires going to it where this one (if that's what this is) has three. Guess I need to have a look at some 69/70 schematics to see if this one matches one of those. Heck if I know what's going on here.
