I used to keep phone numbers on napkins from chicks that I met in bars. I didn't have to buy toilet paper for quite some time.

Just tell him what it will take to buy it and put the ball in his court. If it is a million, then tell him that. Right now may think someone has it that thinks it is worth $500 and is looking for a deal. Inform him and let him make the next move, buy it or not. It will at least give him closure knowing the whole story.

Yep, pretty much. Put the ball in his court and ask him to come to you with a price and take it from there, maybe he used to have one similar back a few years and wants another one, likely he might be in touch with current prices vis ebay or something else.
I had a guy track me down for a car that his Grandfather owned when he was a kid, I didnt really want to sell it and had thought of a large price and just let him keep coming back until we were there, nostalgia has its price after all .
He was the guy that deserved to have it if it did come up for sale though, I was happy that it went to him

Last note i got on my car was by the county telling me to move/get rid of it or be fined.

I like the line...."Whatever your thinking, triple it."  :2thumbs:

You should use that line on the county  :yesnod:

I cant believe your car is still for sale Neal. Is it still in Canada? When is the last time you drove it? You know, If this guy did buy my 72, picking up your car was the fist thought that came to my mind. Maybe I will talk to this guy after MATS.

QuoteExactly. I've found a lot of these inquiries are made by guys who want to flip it.

I used to park my 72 in a very public place. I got tons of notes, and I can tell you that in actuality 10% are flippers, and 90% don't know what the car is actually worth.

I agree with this, From my experiances most are clueless on chargers prices or any muscle car prices & will offer you 1/4 of what it's worth. When you tell them what you want they freak out & say your crazy. Then you end up arguing & ends up being a big hassle. :brickwall:

then again even veterans run over board on their prices also......so it goes both ways. LIke someone mentioend when they sell their car its always worth 50k, but when they start to look after they sell theirs they always want half of asking prices :smilielol:

I'd probably be more inclined to ask him what his offer might be instead of offering a price that he might jump on.  Of course a million is a no brainer but if you feel $20k is high and he feels $25k is a good price he's gonna jump all over your 20k price.  Don't underestimate him because he just might have the cash.

If it were mine I would say $35,000 and I am open to reasonable offers.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

I know of a guy with a decent Charger. He parks it within view of the street. He said that he gets people knocking at his door a few times a week. The last guy made his wife get out of the truck IN THE RAIN to knock on his door. Do you want to sell, DO you want to sell...She wouldn't take NO for an answer until he said... "Okay.... Give me $100,000 and I will sell." She balked, saying although it is a nice car, she didn't think that it was worth that much. He said...."It is to ME."

Fred

You'd think that If somebody loved your car enough to desperately want to buy it.................. they'd be willing to meet your price.
Just a bunch of wanker's, that's all they are!    :slap:

myk

Christ man.  If someone's that desperate to buy a Charger and they're SERIOUS about buying a Charger, such as actually having the money in hand, they can be bought-they are out there.  You don't have to harass the guy down the street or around the block or whatever...

you dont want to try that with me hahaha......granted I was not serious, but I did have the CASH in PLAY for such a move. Typical conversation with this one person was like this:

-'how much you want to sell the car for?"

-'You wouldnt have enough money for my car!!"

-'give me a number out of curiousity.'

-'75 thousand since it was a complete retissoire, etc.

-'I said OK lets do it you have the title in hand we can go to my bank and I can give you cash or cashiers check depending on how comfortable you are walking out the bank'

He almost did it, but backed out at the last minuted after we went to the bank and I showed my bank balance how much I had in there and he got sad over it and told me a story how much the charger meant to him and how he didnt mean to throw a number out at me like that. In response I told him its 'OK' no biggie Ill find another 2nd charger  :2thumbs:

Wow.... you had balls AND cash to back it up. Impressive!
I guess you ended up buying a '74 model?

thats before the crash mind you...i worked in a tech company that was doing very well at the time I was driving a first gen also, but sold it then got a 3rd gen and sold that one too. The only time I had a 2nd gen was back in 90s, but sold that before we hit the big time in stocks climbing. I didnt think of vehicles at the time when stocks were climbing all I could think about was how much money we were making. After stocks crashed really bad, lost my job, lost my home, lost all my 401k, etc...I settled on a 3rd gen that cost 3k. Sold that one recently for some cash since at the time (year ago) I didnt have a job sold it for 5k so 2k more than what I got it for. Now im back at looking at some 2nd gens, but this time with a smaller budget roughly 20k.

Yup thats my mini story on the charger and yes I recently got hired back on my old job since things have tickered up in the economy, but lost it all roughly 3 years ago. Been saving 1k/month for this new 2nd charger cant wait till my bonuses come in july and next year jan!!!!!

Kern Dog

Wow....
I'm glad to read that you took the hard times like a man and are fighting your way back. Best of luck to you and your family. :2thumbs:

Yeah it is up in Calgary straight up I15 from you . it is stored at a friends place , he has driven it recently but not for most of the winter . People continue to buy unseen cars off Ebay that need a 50 K restoration but no one will pay 1/2 for my car that is virtually done & had 50 k spent on it  LOL. Sell him mine or yours & buy mine  :shruggy:
