This guy has put a note on my car twice now

I have been driving the Charger to work this week just to get some drive time in on all the repairs (enhancements) I have done to the car recently. I am driving it to MATS in Vegas in two weeks. Anyway, I get back to the yard today and a coworker says this guy was hanging around your car when I pulled in. He was asking about the owner, about the car, etc. My coworker gave him a little history talking up the car and stuff. The guy left this note with his name and number.

This is the same guy who left me a note on the car last year. I kept that note as well. He must be serious I would think. I hate to think about selling it...... I just wonder how much he is willing to pay?

I think maybe I better start using my Club while parked at work.  :scratchchin:

I'm sure that the attention is flattering, right?
I like the attention that my car gets, but I'm trying to relax when I park and leave it. When it is out of my line of sight I sometimes get anxious to get back to make sure nobody has damaged it or parked too close.

surmanajaja

20 years ago I got a lot of that with my red 65 stang. my reply was always the same: 100 000. they usually stopped asking after that. and I was dead serious, the car was not and is not for sale.

myk

When people start following you around town or into parking lots like I've had to deal with then you can start to worry.  At least you don't get notes on the car at your home, something else I've had to deal with.  I actually have a bucket full of notes about the car that I've collected over the 20 years I've owned the car...

Cooter

I have a simple response for the types that leave numbers and such on my windshield. They are 9 times out of ten, flippers and usually already have my car flipped for huge profit. So, I poke a hole in their game plan..."Whatever your thinking, triple it"...

I did have a drunk one time offer me a million $ for Christine.

I have done it once on a motorbike leaving a not on it!I was about to buy a Ducati Monster and there was only one i have ever seen around where i lived so i  just wanted to find out something about the bike!I wrote him this left my number on it but never heard from him!

I would say give the guy a call and see what happens!Hide your number so he can't disturb you if you don't want! But i guess he knows where your car parks so i would be careful how you act just in case he is a nutcase!Never know until you try it!

bill440rt

I left a note on a car once. That's how I got my '69. Cheap, too.
You can always entertain his offer. Too low, you can always just say NO or simply the car is not for sale.

If he leaves a single red rose with a note next time, then I'd be worried.   :D  :eek2:

Wow well put.  My thought is that my car can sell anytime. So if someone wants it I just think I'm not ready to sell yet. If it was a one on one and I told them I had 45k in it and they said I'll give you 45k then they'd be driving it home. As for notes and people asking while I'm driving I just say no thanks and don't think about it as quoted above.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Exactly. I've found a lot of these inquiries are made by guys who want to flip it. If you spend any time talking with them, you find out pretty quickly that a reasonable price is not their objective.

The only time I have ever let my car out of my site (3 months ago), some sonofabitch put a 3" scratch and dent in the drivers rear quarter panel. Never again. There are too many 5150's, jealous types and vandals out there to take a chance on leaving our very expensive and "getting rarer everyday" cars to chance. Nothing wrong with extra caution and due diligence.

Thankfully, I get my car back today and I'll post up some shots.

Paul G, You have a nice looking Charger, it may be that this guy simply likes it and would like to own it.  I'd call the guy and see whats on his mind, at which point you could make it clear that its not for sale. Then if you find another note on the windshield from him it would be time worry. Especially if (like already mentioned) he leaves a rose.

:iagree:

I'd call him and tell him that you are flattered but that really aren't interested in selling the car. If he makes an offer you like or if he asks what it would take to buy it and you think you might consider a price, then just play it by ear. I generally add 50% to an already outrageous price when someone gives me the "Everything has a price tag" bit.

Just for kicks I got on Ebay, Collector Care Trader, and local Craigslist just to see what is for sale that I might want. There really is nothing within 500 miles that I would want right now, in my price range of course.

Last week mid-day I got a knock on my door, someone wanting to look at my car(left the garage door open).  After walking around it a couple times he says he will give me 40,000.00 cash for it right now.  I live on a short dead-end court, out of sight, so I asked him why he would even drive this way.  His reply "Looking for cars just like this"  Gave me his phone number and left.  I waited a couple days and tried the phone, he said he was still interested.  Since I've had my Ram 2500 turbo-diesel parked in front of the garage.  How worried should I be?

68 Bullitt Charger

If he took the time to write out the 2 note's then I would give the Man the respect of at least a phone call whether you would want to sell or not. Everything is for sale at the right price IMO. ;)

Just tell him what it will take to buy it and put the ball in his court. If it is a million, then tell him that. Right now may think someone has it that thinks it is worth $500 and is looking for a deal. Inform him and let him make the next move, buy it or not. It will at least give him closure knowing the whole story.

Yep, pretty much. Put the ball in his court and ask him to come to you with a price and take it from there, maybe he used to have one similar back a few years and wants another one, likely he might be in touch with current prices vis ebay or something else.
I had a guy track me down for a car that his Grandfather owned when he was a kid, I didnt really want to sell it and had thought of a large price and just let him keep coming back until we were there, nostalgia has its price after all .
He was the guy that deserved to have it if it did come up for sale though, I was happy that it went to him

I agree with this, From my experiances most are clueless on chargers prices or any muscle car prices & will offer you 1/4 of what it's worth. When you tell them what you want they freak out & say your crazy. Then you end up arguing & ends up being a big hassle. :brickwall:

I know of a guy with a decent Charger. He parks it within view of the street. He said that he gets people knocking at his door a few times a week. The last guy made his wife get out of the truck IN THE RAIN to knock on his door. Do you want to sell, DO you want to sell...She wouldn't take NO for an answer until he said... "Okay.... Give me $100,000 and I will sell." She balked, saying although it is a nice car, she didn't think that it was worth that much. He said...."It is to ME."

you dont want to try that with me hahaha......granted I was not serious, but I did have the CASH in PLAY for such a move. Typical conversation with this one person was like this:

-'how much you want to sell the car for?"

-'You wouldnt have enough money for my car!!"

-'give me a number out of curiousity.'

-'75 thousand since it was a complete retissoire, etc.

-'I said OK lets do it you have the title in hand we can go to my bank and I can give you cash or cashiers check depending on how comfortable you are walking out the bank'

He almost did it, but backed out at the last minuted after we went to the bank and I showed my bank balance how much I had in there and he got sad over it and told me a story how much the charger meant to him and how he didnt mean to throw a number out at me like that. In response I told him its 'OK' no biggie Ill find another 2nd charger  :2thumbs:

thats before the crash mind you...i worked in a tech company that was doing very well at the time I was driving a first gen also, but sold it then got a 3rd gen and sold that one too. The only time I had a 2nd gen was back in 90s, but sold that before we hit the big time in stocks climbing. I didnt think of vehicles at the time when stocks were climbing all I could think about was how much money we were making. After stocks crashed really bad, lost my job, lost my home, lost all my 401k, etc...I settled on a 3rd gen that cost 3k. Sold that one recently for some cash since at the time (year ago) I didnt have a job sold it for 5k so 2k more than what I got it for. Now im back at looking at some 2nd gens, but this time with a smaller budget roughly 20k.

Yup thats my mini story on the charger and yes I recently got hired back on my old job since things have tickered up in the economy, but lost it all roughly 3 years ago. Been saving 1k/month for this new 2nd charger cant wait till my bonuses come in july and next year jan!!!!!
