what siliva said this guy is way overpriced!!!!!  for double the price you can get a runner, 440, auto, air, etc...for 6k I have saw for 3rd gens.

AirborneSilva

I went by this guys house today, he had a 72 bumper with brackets for sale that I bought, he's a nice guy and has lots of 3rd gen odds and ends.  The one he has for 8K is in good shape body wise but no ralley dash, the only rust I could see is surface rust but he did tell me that he had rust around the back window fixed at one point.  I couldn't get a good look at the other for $3800 was hard to see with all the stuff on and around it but I could see that it has a nice ralley dash.  Anyway if anyone is interested in either of them I can go back and go over them real well and take pictures.

Uhh. $3800. Uh.. thats not quite the nazi gold I was expecting. Totally worth it.  :Twocents:

never said anything about nazi gold, I guess some have a flare for being dramatic, but he did come down $500 from his original asking price.  Still don't know what shape the car is in since it has stuff all over and around it.  I did get a fairly good look at the other one though.

Ghoste

Having seen the car (almost) in person, has your appraisal of it changed any?

I do agree Troy, but it is fun to have a project around to play with.  I have been were the only car I had was a project and that is not fun, but if you can go for a cruize on the nice days and play with a project on the others, it's kinda nice.  I just have a hard time remembering I can't have them or save them all.

if you won mega millions you could :2thumbs:

There was a 3rd gen Charger selling on here, with a running & driveable BB & 727, originally a SB car, that he was asking $3800 "I think it was SixPackSid", I have no idea if he still has it or not, I have not seen the car in person, just the photos in his advert. here on DC.com, but sound like a decent to very good deal... The guy you are talking about, I think that there is wiggle room for negotiation there, it's not worth the gold standard that's for sure... The guy is stupid, to not clear the car off & give some decent photos, maybe he's just lazy I guess... $2k maybe from what I see & it's really 98% rust free with a blown engine....

Out of curiosity, what does everyone consider to be 98% rust free?

Slightly, the dash looked in really good shape (except the dash pad but then I guess that's to be expected).  I think that if it was as rust free as the other car he has for $8K i would pay $3800 for it.

Thanks Bud, that is my point exactly!  There are too many 3rd Gen Chargers out there at a better price and in better condition.

Any 71-72 Charger in that condition is easily worth 4K. Running or not.  Wait and see, The 3rd gen chargers are the next big dollar cars. :Twocents:

thats what they said about 73-74 RR especially with the gtx option, and that was 20 years ago and they are still way under a 2nd gen charger or RR

I'm hoping you're right since I have a 73 SE big block car that only has one relatively minor rust spot and I paid $2800 for it.

love your enthusiasm.....

Sold the amateur resto (by me) '73 rallye u-code in my pic for $7900. Running, driving, but needing some work.

IMO, 3rd gens are affordable drivers. Hard to make money restoring one.

They aren't the next big thing  :Twocents:

I feel for the guys who have purchased gen 3 Chargers, thinking they will be a great investment car   :smilielol: or thinking they can throw money at them & get rich  :brickwall: ... But also I'm glad they are still reasonable priced, I would like to get another BB 71 Charger or Super Bee as a driver  :hah: Some day, when I'm not freaken broke anyway... I personally don't buy cars to resale them, I buy them for the love of the car &/or project, build them accordingly...

Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

AirborneSilva

I got my 3rd Gen for two reasons, one being it was a good price and I had a 383 just sitting waiting to go in a car and two I think they are a great looking car if setup right w/bulge hood, spoilers and the like.  Having said that my goal is to have a 68 Charger R/T, petty much like the first car i owned that I bought off my Mom, she loved that car (as I did), and now she is gone so I'd like another to remember her by.  When I got my HLPAG (that is gone now - well except the bad memory), car and told her she got a big smile on her face and asked if it was a 68.  I'd also like to have a 1st Gen, just to have all three REAL chargers, but I think the wife may have a cow about that, we'll see how that plan goes  :icon_smile_big:

Ghoste

Its a laudable goal though. :2thumbs:  If it helps you can tell her that we all approve around here.

I was thinking along the same lines that you are.  They can look just as good in their own right and more importantly, to me anyway, don't they have a wider wheelbase stock?  That means better handling performance right out of the gate.  Couple that with the fact that everyone's nutting themselves over the 2nd Gen's and you can pretty much buy a 3rd Gen at a reasonable price...FOR NOW...

Budnicks:

So you think 3rd gen Chargers are a Joke.  ? What do you have that is so much better.  ::) :shruggy:
71 R/T's and 72 rallyes are a great investments imo.  I don't buy and sell cars.  It's nice knowing that I am however not throwing good money at a worthless investment...I thought this was a Charger fan web site...you seem like a hater

Budnicks, I was referring to this post of yours

Cuda nut, I didn't read it that way.  I think Bud was being a realist saying that there are some who think they are going to be worth what a 2nd Gen is but I too doubt they will ever reach that price range (not in my life time), and he did say that he would like to have a BB 71.   :Twocents:
