... from a company telling me that one of the items I ordered last weekend is on back order and will not ship for about a month but the rest of my items will ship later today.

I asked the lady what it was that I ordered. She proceeded to name off the 4 or 5 baby related items. I informed her that I did not order anything from her company and that someone must have my card number. I asked her for the last 4 of the card so I knew which one was compromised. I also asked her for the address the items were being shipped two and it's a SoCal address (I live in Sac). She also gave me the e-mail address used for the order which of course also was not mine and a hotmail account.

It's interesting that the person that used my card info used my cell phone number for the order. I guess they figured it was tied to the cards billing information and was needed for verification, which it's not. Since my cell phone was used along with the card there is only one company I have dealt with in the last two months that would have that specific information.

I called the bank to term the card and needless to say I will not be doing business with that company anymore.

Good thing one of the items was backordered.

The company that the order was placed with is going to work with the authorites and see if they care.

I authorized the summit order and had it shipped to my house.

Don't be terribly quick to blame. One of the credit card processors was hacked recently and a lot of card information was stolen. Since this is a processor they'd only have card data for purchases. Your credit card company should have informed you if you card was at risk.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Here is a update.
No more charges have been put on my card and the bogus charge has been removed.

The company I have been dealing with that swiped my card info still had not billed me for the custom parts they are making for me (and I really need the custom parts). Well my parts are ready and I needed to provide payment again before they would ship the parts. Since I don't know the person who actually took the card I did not want to bring it up with the person I'm dealing with, so I went down to the grocery store and picked up a VISA gift card. I was able to register the card with my personal information and was able to use the card like it was my personal credit card. The company never knew it was a gift card. Great way to deal with companies you need but don't trust anymore.

I have reviewed the companies I have done business with over the last 4 months and the information I provided to each one and this is the only place that had the specific information used for the bogus purchase. I just can't prove if it was the person I have been dealing with or someone else in the billing office that may have access to customers credit card information.

There is nothing that can be done about this but hopefull this story help someone else if you find yourself in the same situation.
