Ever notice in Bullitt that the two bad guys in the Charger never said one word to eachother before or during the chase?  Even an OH SHIT at the end would have been appropriate.....

Yes, every time I watch it. I'm always amazed by that scene.

They didn't talk because they were ice cold professionals; at least, that's the way I always thought of them...

My point wasn't to piss all over anyones favorite movie. I was just curious if I missed something that everyone else could plainly see.

Nah, you didn't miss anything. The movie just sucked.

Was it MORE common to pick up hitchhikers back then? I got my license in 1982 and it was common knowledge then to avoid it.
It was very common back then. I used to hitch hike a lot back then...stupid now that I think about it.

I never got into this movie either.    I don't think much of Bullitt besides the chase scene either but I really like McQueen's LeMans which has even less dialogue than all these old movies put together  :shruggy:
Black Betty:  1969 Charger R/T - X9 440 six pack, TKO600 5 speed, 3.73 Dana 60.

Stupid in the context of "today" definitely, but back then?  Nah.  Hell little teenage girls dressed in tight jeans and even tighter tops and big smiles would do it all the time and travel the country during that period and it wasn't an issue.  Today, in this time, I wouldn't recommend getting in a stranger's car even if you were an armed soldier in full gear.  We've come a long way baby!

Yep, and there used to be a time when you saw a car on the side of the road, looked to be needing help, you stopped and helped. Owner was very appreciative. Today, they look at you like your gonna rape(Female), kill them if you roll by and lean out the window to ask if they need help.

Oh yeah, gimme the good 'ol days over today..Any day.

I used to pull over anytime I saw someone stopped on the shoulder.  One day, I made the mistake of pulling in front of a stopped car.  As I walked back to the stopped car I noticed a lone, young girl in the car; as I got closer she punched it and almost took me out.  I decided that my own safety wasn't worth it.   You can't trust people on either side of the line anymore...

FlatbackFanatic

I love this movie, its all about the car , and thats it. When I first saw it back in the early 70's, I thought it was kind of wierd, I then i saw it again and then I got it.
Thats why there are no names, its just the driver and the mechanic. What can you say.....

once rutger (i think thats his name) made the movie The Hitcher where he killed people i think that took the wind out of the hitchhiker sails

also, if they had lines and messed them up they would have to re-shoot the whole thing again and that cost money even back then
and no, you don't talk much on a 3500 mile road trip compared to the time spent driving

Rutger Hauer wasn't it?   Don't see or hear anything of him anymore. I remember The Hitcher.

The car action was okay. The scenery was okay. I just can't wrap my head around the total lack of interesting dialogue!
most of the best 'car' movies are like that, you just have to know which chapters to skip and/or fast forward. (ie Deathproof, start the movie where the girls take the challenger for a 'test drive'. or original gone in 60 seconds, skip to the "i should have read my horoscope this morning!")

Indygenerallee

Deathproof was awesome (well about any nutty Quentin Tarrantino film) I can watch that movie all the way through no prob!! I love the retro vibe his films have although he is a kook..
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Too much dialogue (where's the duct tape when you need it) at the beginning for me..............I cut striaght to the challenger test drive as aussiemuscle suggests.

Skipping through the scenes in these type movies is why most end up watching it over and over again...
Too many hard to keep interested people watching seemingly "uninteresting" movies.
