that's really something i haven't seen a fuel injected hemi on a road car since the Indy car pics...
i see allot of pics on the site but not a lot of tech info.. that's one site i'm gonna be looking at more in the future..

it's had some different looks over the years Cody,.. I think it's AWESOME!

here's the scoop..

"Looking back through the archives, it looks like I did not run any races in 1977. I rebuilt totaled Sonetts for their owners, and always had some sort of money making project going. On weekends mostly and evenings, a friend and I, Powell Hughes, were designing and building an AAGT car from scratch. I had thought about building a simple, lightweight Corvette with a solid rear axle, but upstaging Greenwood would have been hard to do, and besides, if I did not, I would have been just another Corvette. Staying up with Phil Currin hour after hour would have been a trick too. I needed an advantage. It is interesting to note that Phil actually ran more races than Greenwood did, and was the GTO IMSA Champion one year, which, I believe, Greenwood never was, he just did not get as much attention. Therefore, I decided to do them all in. The only american engine to ever impress me was the 426 Hemi. Even in the sixties I always wanted one in a 2500 pound, balanced car. I knew that the 426 Hemi was stronger and heavier than the Chevrolet engines, but it had a better chance of running with the 935 Turbo Porsches in a light car. I was also hoping IMSA would allow turbo charging on big blocks. Then I would have the best engine in the series. I called Petty Engineering and asked Maurice Petty if the extra weight of the Hemi over a 440 was worth the penalty. He excitedly said " take the Hemi ,take the Hemi and put 100 pounds in the rear bumper to make up for it". He was amazed that there was still some place where a Hemi could still be raced. In order to use a Hemi, I had to use a large bodied car like the Challenger and make all of the body panels myself. If it ran well , it would be a crowd favorite and therefore more likely to get a sponsor, so a Dodge it would be. Photos 21 and 22 show the first completed chassis and suspension that was entirely custom built. It took a lot of time to design and make the A arms etc. and decide on the geometry for the entire chassis."

alot more on the site...

Seeing that car reminds me of a car that Pete Hamiliton and Ray Stonkus built for the modify race at Daytona in 75 or 76. They took the original MULE chalenger Kit car and fitted a superbird nose cone to it. The car was finnished and Nascar found out about it and called and said not to bring it.  I saw it and it was radical. It never got outside the shop before being cut apart. I Am sure that no pictures exists either, unless Pete has some.

Amazing that the Challenger is still under development to make it go faster with new bodywork in 2010.
