Got a Charger...how much hp should I expect?

I have a 68 Charger on its way and wondered if it is built accordingly, how much hp at the crank should the motor put out?  Thanks in advance for any input...can't wait to drive it.  Justen (newbie)

I guess some info would help:

The engine is a 440, 30 over Big Block Dodge. Forged TRW 10.75:1 pistons, factory crankshaft & rods, Stage V Chrysler cylinder heads, Engle Hyd camshaft (.517 lift, 282 duration, 108 lobe center), Edelbrock Torker intake with a Holley 830cfm carb. MSD 6 al ignition box, MSD billet distributor and spark plug wires. The exhaust system consists of a 1 & 7/8 Hooker Super Comp headers, 3" tubing and 40 series Flowmaster mufflers that were all coated by Jet Hot. The transmission is a rebuilt A8333, 4 speed manual with a Lakewood bell housing and a Hayes 11" clutch assembly. 4.56 gears out back.

Well a part of it depends on who built the motor & did the machine work.

Them some deep gears & with a 4 speed, ya better get a membership at the local tire store.

Only one way to find out, which is to put the thing on rollers and see what numbers you get.  Or better yet, forget the HP numbers-take it to the track and see how the two of you perform and look at those numbers...

You'd be surprized these days. Jderek, Wouldn't be too worried bout the HP as much as how much you can put to the ground. I got a stock 440 with 4-speed I can't hook in a fifty acre field.

I got it off Ebay and can't copy the pics for whatever reason...figured I'd take some when it gets here.

I have seen that 68 on Ebay for a VERY long time...it looks nice.

Also not sure what you spent but it was way out of my reach.

Kinda of a restored Charger that is tubbed out, different combination thats for sure.

Goodness, $54 large??? :o

I like the fact they painted it a factory color & not some belly button color.  Could very well be the original color of the car?
Engine bay needs toughened up.  Beautiful ride though.  I've lusted over it every time it's been listed.  It looks like it was built right?






I don't know about traction issues?  ;)   That's a bad ass look.   :2thumbs:

What would you suggest to toughen up the engine?  What kind of 1/4 mile times with that 4 speed do you guys think? Thanks

That car needs more motor.   I'd guess high 12's low 13's.
