The missing Chargers

What are the missing (and generally well known) Chargers?
There is the Charger I and the Charger III of course.  There would also be the Watermelon Charger which no matter which side of the debate you fall on, the evidence is that the car itself did exist whatever it was.  There would be the 1970 Ridler Award Charger which was a 66 model that won in 70.  One of the Mr Norm's Super Chargers is restored and rarely seen but one is suppsoedly complete but missing.  Landy's 68 and 69?  The DMCL might still exist but not likely according to Modelmaker the last known owner.  The bronze XP Hemi used in the ads.
What else?

1BAD68

It would be cool to find out who won the Dr. Pepper 7 Charger's and what they did with them.

AirborneSilva

Didn't chop cut rebuild just restore the Bronze XP Hemi Charger  :shruggy:

Ghoste

No they rebodied a car that MAY have been similar but one of the points agreed upon was that they definitely were not starting with the brochure car and even Keisler and Woods said the same.

AirborneSilva

Cool, I didn't hear them say that, I just kept hearing the "Bronze XP Hemi Charger"

Ghoste

It was a bronze Charger with an XPJ9 in the dash VIN.

There must be some missing 3rd gens, what are the famous ones that haven't been seen in decades?

What about the Barris "Thunder Charger" from the movie "Thunder Alley" and the Hurst Prototype '69 Charger that never was.......
1970 Daytona Charger SE "clone" (440/Auto)
1967 Charger (360,6-pak/Auto)
2008 Challenger SRT8 BLK (6.1/Auto) 6050 of 6400

Ghoste

Is the Thunder Charger missing or does someone have it?  The foggiest parts of my tiny brain want to say someone found that car, no?
Good call on them both for sure.  Wonder if there is anyone left associated with the old Hurst that might know what happened to their custom?

There was the Charger I which was a show car based off of the Polara, then the Charger II was brought out just before the introduction of the 66 fastback.  The 66 was already set to go into production but Dodge decided to take a regular line model, customize it a little and then trot it around on the show car circuit to raise a little hype for the car and then "amazingly" put the show car car into production in the stock form.
The trick worked too as a lot of auto writers even to this day believe the 66 fastback was made because there were so many people asking them too after they showed the Charger II, never realizing the car was already set to launch exactly as it debuted.

I had a topic about that I didn't know that before :scratchchin:. I also thought the 66 was based of the Charger II 65 concept car :o. I still love that rear end :2thumbs:. That is much nicer then the 66 rear end.

Agreed! That's what I thought of after reading the first post.  :coolgleamA:

Nobody is likely to find any trace of the Charger III, as it was just a mock-up of a car, and was probably scrapped not long after it's show poodle days.
A typical fate of both show, concept, pilot and other pre-production efforts.

That is the general opinion on the Charger II as well butthese things have a funny way of turning up.  Steven Juliano assembled a pretty impressive collection of cars that were "scrapped".  ;)

I don't think many "winners" of contest cars actually take the car, usually take the cash value instead (minus taxes).
There was a big stink after Oprah gave away all those cars because many of the lucky recipients could not afford the taxes.

Speaking of giveaways, the Playboy Pink 66 awarded to Alyson Parks would be a good one.  Were there any Chargers done up for Scat Pack show car duty besides the Topless Charger/Super Charger?

Does anyone know how many of the 68 Bengal Chargers still exist?   The Chargers that were painted Bengal orange buy a dealership to commemorate the new for 1968 Cincinnati Bengals football team.

Ghoste

I'm not sure how many are left but enough that I'm not too sure I would consider the Bengal's as missing Chargers.  The Charger I is a known one too.
