On Alkatraz tonight there is a "Bullitt" like car chase between Sara Jones' 68 Mustang and a new Charger (if you want to call it that).
2 hour season finale 8pm on Fox.
FYI. :drive:

KillerBee1972

Just watched this tv show on fox called Alcatraz  and they recreated the bullitt chase scene with newer cars , And yet again another charger bites the dust  :icon_smile_dissapprove:

Im sure it will be on you tube soon

they did a pretty good job recreating it with hubcaps rolling and the VW beetle in the background

I heard about this, but haven't seen it yet, I'm on the west coast.   :icon_smile_big:

I like the show, it's one of the few I actually watch.  One of two actually, this and the new Hawaii 5-0.

One of the characters drives an old mustang that looks similar to the bullit one and I was hoping they would have used the old cars for the chase in this episode, oh well.  (I'm not wild about the sedan anyway so, one less in the world, woohoo!)    ;D

Yes there was a character that drove a 68 rustang just like Mr. McQueen's that looked pretty nice, And i agree im not a fan of the sedan chargers, but my mom has a daytona and that is really fun to drive.

Same here, but ONLY on DVR so I can skip through.  Those are the only 2 shows I really watch other than series on HBO, Showtime and Starz. Dexter, Luck, Boss and the like.
I work for a Fox affilliate and I can honestly tell you commercial television is awful. Why do you think they call it commercial TV. It has gotten to the point where it is the show is fill around the ads.  Doesn't matter if the show runs properly as longs as the ads do.
Having said all that, I was a bit unimpressed with the chase scene ... they really edited it for time.  Gotta get that 22 1/2 minutes of commercial content in there ya know.  The entire thing was sponsored by 2013 Mustang and during the bump before the break they plugged having a longer version (the full chase) you could watch on line.   :slap:

The San Francisco chase scene was kind of cool. With the newer Black Charger and the new Mustang flying down the hills - it brought back memories of Bullitt for sure!

Sponsored by... you guessed it, Ford (in the final credits)

That's why the Mustang was a 5.0 GT and the Charger was a stripped taxi cab model with steel wheels. All the burnouts and power slides were done in the Mustang. Marketing has taken over...

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Notice that where the mustang hits and rolls the charger in the remake is the same spot where the Charger overpowers and pulls away from the Mustang in the original chase scene.

Yeah, maybe I'm just old, but not much of that crap on tv interests me. I did the unthinkable a couple years ago and ditched cable tv in favor of the old faithful tv antenna.  Surprisingly, we pick 31 channels (though 5 of them are religious stuff 24/7, so really 26...).  I kept comcast internet (or xfinity, whatver the bleep that is.....).

So the only way I see any cable shows is if I catch re-runs online, but I really don't like most of what's on cable anymore either.  When I had it, I watched mostly the history channel, discovery channel and military channel.

Three of the channels we get over the air play movies regularly and between that and netflix, I can live without cable.

Yeah, definitely sponsored by Ford, I read somewhere you could go to the alcatraz site and enter to win a new stang.  I think Ford is just ticked 'cause it got hosed by Hawaii 5-0.  The first episode, the main characters drove a gray/silver mustang, and every episode after, they drive a gray/silver camaro and the show is sponsored by Chevy.

Product placement sure has gotten big over the years.

What I find hilarious is at 1:57, when the Mustang spins the Charger.....it goes from San Fransisco to a street about 15 minutes from my house.....in BRITISH COLUMBIA!!! Talk about travelling for a scene!!

PS: I love the new Mustang... :drool5: :whistling: :misbehaving:

That six cylinder charger was kicking that 5.0 mustangs butt  :nana:

Gotta love it  :coolgleamA:

Anyone notice the mustang has no front license plate but a CA rear plate? Aren't front plates required in CA?

the modern cars look heavy and can't jump very high. still nice to see some dramatic car chasing. it must be a pain to live/work in that area, because they'd always be closing the roads for filming.

Mike DC

Actually, more weight helps a car fly higher/farther, assuming the takeoff speed is the same.

The modern cars' jumps probably looked smaller because the cars themselves are bigger.  If I was the director I would've had some slight ramps put on the takeoffs to lift them up a bit more.

Anybody remember the "Steve McQueen" Sheryl Crow video from a few years back?  They launched a Mustang way up (and bent it pretty badly).  Looked cool though.  Earnhardt was in a Camaro because he was contract-prohibited from appearing in anything other than a Chevy.

The car chase stuff was from about 0:40 to 1:30 in the video.
