In the beginning of March I was out with my aerator beating the crap out of my lawn and dropping some fertilizer after that, when my neighbors came over and were giving my crap that I was out doing yard-work to soon.  I told them well you are really going to laugh when I turn on my water...Well all I have to say is boy my lawn is green.  Everyone was out with the lawn aerator and fertilizer yesterday while I sat on my front porch with a beer and watched...Life is good!!

Looks good, definitely can see difference between yours and your neighbors. That's how it is with my neighbor. He doesn't fertilize it enough and cuts it real short which hurts lawn and it stays brownish most of the year.

Lawn wars.......

I had to cut back on watering mine last year to save $$... almost killed me to see it go brown at the peak of the summer heat!    :pullinghair:

To top it off, the neighbourhood gatewatcher (house at the entrance to our street) had an exceptional year with his lawn last year.  Green, weed-free... and I had to see that everytime I left the neighbourhood.  Damned neighbour!   :brickwall:

This year will be different!   :nutkick:    :2thumbs:

BananaDan

Wow, looks great dano!  Where in the world are you?  I'm in NJ and should've fertilized this weekend but I didn't.  Do you own your own aerator, or did you rent one?

That is a NICE lawn!  :drool5:

I usually fertilize/treat several times a year. Just did the first feeding about 2 weeks ago. Lawn stays nice & green.
Last year I got hit with the weed fairy. Have no idea where they came from but they started sprouting everywhere. They're popping up early now as well, so I want to take care of them before they get out of control.
I don't have an aerator but I usually de-thatch in the fall & seed. Should I aerate this year instead? You look like a pro, Dano!

There's something to be said about a good looking lawn for sure.
Nothing looks better when you get that carpet effect...........lush and soft and green and not a weed to be seen.
Looks fantastic.   :2thumbs:

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

Lawn Wars I like that...that is funny.  I'm smack dab in the middle of the country, Nebraska.  We had a very mild winter but very dry.  My lawn is so big it was not economical to have a lawn care company come in and do it so I had to learn as I go.  I bought my own aerator and it is a lawn eating beast...This really helps on water consumption though out the year...You should aerate early in the spring and middle to late fall the fall one is the most important one and you should fertilize right after and I learned you have to treat for weeds in early April "CRABGRASS" early or mid March, even if you don't have any cuz they will pop up sometime that is for sure.  Lawn work can be a pain but I enjoy it for the most part..I have a zero turn dixon mower and I can fly with that machine so it doesn't take too long to mow.  There is just something to be said about a healthy, nice looking lawn in my opinion and the charger sure looks good next to it!!!!!

IF i put down grass seed in my bare spots will that grow or should i do that in the fall?  I'm more car guy than green thumb.

Well, I can't put any kind of fertilizer down right now as I just finished up a bag of grass seed that the mice were nice enough to chew through all winter.  Whatever was left, they decided to push out of the bag and onto my concrete slap in my shed.  So, just so it wouldn't go to waste, I decided to over seed my lawn.  Really the only thing that I can put down I guess is starter fertilizer so I won't burn up the new seed that I just laid down.

im all for off topic discussion. spend most of my time in this area. most guys have several interests other than their cars (like football, toys.vans, hockey, christmas lights, camping). if we stick strictly to car parts and restoring procedures it might get a little boreing to me. the yard looks fantastic. a beautiful place to sit and sip on a cold drink with a light summer breeze with the smell of fresh cut grass. enjoy your oasis. :2thumbs:

Don't get me wrong my neighbors are great and I would never tell them what they should do with their own lawn or property....we just like to give each other crap!!!!  One thing I have learned and my late grandpa always told me is that is be proud of what you have and take care of it, because it will affect you in the future at some point in time good or bad...Like last year I had a older car with a ton of miles on it, that I decided to sell cuz I just didn't drive it anymore.  Well a guy came over to look at it and before we even looked at the car he commented on my place and that the yard/landscape looked great...so we b/s about it for awhile so we went into the garage and then again he commented on the garage all kept up and clean...well anyway he looked at the car and I told him I did all the maintenance on the car myself and I kept her in tip top shape...He took it for a spin...when he came back he said she has a lot of miles on her but I can see how you take care of your things I will take it...I couldn't believe it easiest sell ever and plus I was asking 1500 more than it even booked out for...So if someone makes fun of you for wanting things to look good and taking care of your things...just brush it off and keep doing what you are doing it WILL pay off in the future someway, whether that being selling something, getting a job or maybe getting laid..LOL...Hell I don't know, but it will be something ....thanks everyone for the compliments

sorry dj  didnt mean to hang ya out, :smilielol: im not big on spending tons of time on the lawn, just like the off topic area for chattin. bill had mentioned the off topic so i just went there. im more like you than you know. then i tossed the statement about his lawn in there cuz it is a beautiful yard. i cant put weed killer on my yard or it would be bare. the only problem with it is that when all the true grass yards go brown in the heat mos. the weed yards stay green and keep growing. :brickwall:

That looks very nice. So... where does someone begin with a yard that has never recieved any attention other than mowing? Lots of weeds, and two dogs. (dead spots from urine) I'm willing to invest in a spreader, and I would like a healthier looking lawn.  :shruggy:

The older I get the more I like a nice yard. :shruggy:

When i moved into my current house, half the neighborhood is older people that are retired.  The guys at work told me, make sure you keep your yard up, the one thing that angers the neighbors the most is some other neighbor that doesnt take care of his yard.  I thought, who cares, its my yard isnt it?  But now that i get older, i start feeling the same way.
