Hey Guys,

So my tranny just took a dump. Had my mechanic (who rebuilt/owns a '69 GTX) said it needs an overhaul. Won't go in reverse..just revs. Goes in drive but has difficulty shifting. So, with that said I am shopping around for a tranny rebuild.

What is considered a "good deal" on a torqueflight 727 rebuild these days? Would it be cheaper to go an alternative route....find one for sale online?

Any info/tips is appreciated.

thanks,
Nick

Ran me almost $1500, R&R plus overhaul parts and labor just to rebuild my A518. Another $1000 to make the swap.

I payed 700 bucks for a rebuild and about 2 hours of my time to install. But i think $ 1000 to $1200 is reasonable.

Thanks guys. I'm going to pull it at my buddy's house...he has a lift in the garage. Figured I could save some money taking it to someone. Probably going to have them install this when I get it rebuilt....any other items you recommend for the tranny rebuild?

For a normal overhaul on a 727 it's pretty hard to spend over $300 on parts...anything quoted over that is labor.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thanks John. I'm actually in the process of sourcing parts for a complete overhaul. I have the shop manual but trying to find some threads on a rebuild.

You're not close to Detroit by any chance?  I see them on CL all the time for a few hundred, ready to drop in.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Nope...NC coast...Wilmington. Decided to have a local shop that is a friend of a friend do it. The guy has a '69 GTX that he rebuilt and is very familiar with a lot of mopar stuff. Doing the overhaul along with the TF2 shift Kit.
