71 -74 Charger 4 speed Hurst shifter Handle question - need advice please

OK, I have a question about the pistol grip 4 speed shifter in the 71 Charger.

Fist of all, my car is a 4 speed conversion... using the  "long " trans tunnel for a bucket seat application.  Done by previous owner before I bought it.   I am not planning on running a console at this time.  NO buddy seat either.  I do understand that Dodge and Plymouth had  specific trans tunnels and shifters  based on seating / console use.

I understand that the short handle would normally be used in this application. I am almost ready to buy my new handle - but I wanted to ask if anyone out there has used the bench  / buddy seat handle instead of the short one.  I have been collecting pictures of both applications and I prefer the long handle.

I also realize that 2nd and 4th grear are gonna be a "little"  far back. Just looking for some input and advice - this is not a show car.. a simple driver - and my 1 st 3rd gen charger.

attached is a pic of a think a 71 Road Runner with the shifter and bucket combo. I do not want to change my floor hump and linkage just to use the handle. If it is a no go I will just order the short one and be done with it.  :2thumbs:
Thanks!

2nd and 4th gear would be fairly far back -   uncomfortably so...              If that's alright with you then go for it...        your car    :2thumbs:
