New speedo gear diameter question

Here's one I can't find an answer for. I need to change my 74 727 to a black gear. After comparing the red one it had to a 69 black gear I also had, the diameter of the black gear was way bigger. Is there a black gear for the smaller size or do you have to change the tailshaft gear? I can't find anybody that has asked this question so maybe I'm missing something? Thanks for any help.

The aluminum adapter that holds the speedo pinion has three different positions it can be installed in, there are cast-in numbers to show the range of teeth in each position. Your black gear will have 32 teeth and the adapter will install as shown below.

  Boy do I feel stupid. Now I have to buy something I already had and let it go with a car I just sold. Thanks for the answer. I knew there was something to having it in the right position but I didn't do the homework.
