LA city council is on the verge of passing legislation banning the use sexist and racial slurs.  I am guessing half the radio stations will be off the air by day one.  Bob and Tom will not last 15 minutes on the air.

Of course they only mention speech and not songs, which is a little. . .  :-\

The stations can move to Mexico and broadcast their signals across the border. Just like the old days of the 50s and 60s when rock'n'roll was the devil's music and they had to broadcast from south of the border. Think Wolfman Jack. It really happened.

Additionally, lots of folks get their radio via the internet. The do-gooders can't censor everything. Yet.

This state has the best and worst of everything. It seems like its OWN country sometimes.

You can have that place. Were it not for the decent weather there wouldn't be a single redeeming quality. I bet the northern half wishes it could split from the southern half, kind of like the eastern half of Oregon wishes it could split from the western half.

Anyone ever hear of this thing called the first ammendment? It explicitly protects what they are trying to regulate.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Of course, that's just on an old piece of paper in some building out east.

florida is just as crazy. drug testing welfare people is unconstitutional so is drug testing politicians and state employees. But its not for a truck mechanic with a cdl. Why don't I have rights?
plus who needs radio get an mp3 player and skip commercials too and only play what you want to hear.

I LIKE the idea of drug testing for anyone getting government money whether it is from Welfare or a Gov't job.

When they hinder the second ammendment, the rest follow.

California needs to start worrying about more important things.   This is why they're broke.   Spending more money on pointless things.

While I agree that this legislation is rigoddamdiculous, "censoring" of your radio/tv is nothing new and not just a California problem. What do you think the FCC has been doing for the past couple of decades? Ask Howard Stern (and before you go on and on about how Stern is vulgar, offensive, and blah blah...that is PRECISELY what the 1st amendment is for). If there's a nipple slip or someone says shit on broadcast tv, the FCC is on their ass.

People have gone to jail for this crap, too.

In addition spending more money on pointless things, maybe the FCC should handle more important things, like limiting the number of media types that one company can own so the majority of the info isn't "controlled" by the minority of large corporations.  ::)

I'm still puzzled as to how people figured out how to swear (or fight or have sex or drugs or alcohol) before the advent of recorded sound and the broadcast industry.

Besides wasting time and money, it will do nothing but "urge" broadcasters to curb sexist slurs. It isn't a law. Much ado about nothing. Let's move along now.
