which options did you add to your Charger?

I really like to upgrade my Charger with factory (or factory style) options. So far I have added only a tuff wheel but I already bought a rear window defroster, wheel well chrome, and power window switches (will go with aftermarket cable motors as PW regulators are just too hard to find). My Charger is already optioned fairly well ($4711 sticker price without destination charge) but plans include V21 hood treatment and callouts, pedal dress up kit, and maybe rear shoulder belts.

which options did you add and why? which options do you like most?

greenpigs

Does removing options count?

I took the power steering off & replaced it with manual & also removed the radio & put a blockoff plate on.

I have a cruise control that I'm considering adding but I haven't made up my mind yet.

BananaDan

I've added most of the SE package except for the leather seats and door panels.  I added the A01 light package, wood sport steering wheel, woodgrain dash and pedal dress up.  I also added the bumblebee stripe and hood blackouts, with 440 callouts to come in a few months when it warms up (my car was a stripe delete car originally).

I have added other "upgrades", but those are the only ones that would have been factory available.

I haven't installed any of them yet, but bought factory bucket seats, console, rear window defroster, map light, interior hood release, and a bulge hood.

SE package, AM/FM radio with rear speaker/fader, tinted windows, rear defogger. Power windows, AC and adjustable seat in the future.

Dans 68

The '73 has a dual exhaust, which is not factory original. And an 8-track tape player.  ;)

The '68 has had added a rear defrost switch (but no defrost blower yet), tic-toch-tach, '69 pedal dress-up kit (not my doing), drivers side remote mirror, passenger side mirror, front disk brakes and a manual steering box. I also switched to the mid-year available Hurst shifter.  :icon_smile_big:

Mine started out as a "500" model, 318 -904-8.25 axle with A/C and drum brakes.
Now it is a R/T clone with a 440/493-727 with a Gear Vendors and an 8 3/4. 4 wheel discs. AM FM CD. I added frame connectors and torque boxes. I'm thinking about adding a tilt steering column and putting the A/C back in.

I want to add a factory sunroof but I cannot find any power version that are not mentally disabled prices.

My favorite addition was the intermittent wiper switch.
Lot's of other stuff done.... big block, mags, stripe, tint etc but that wiper switch rocks.

I'd like cruise control eventually too, if I get off my arse and stop spending money on my other Charger.
Gotta love a '69

ChargerST

It would be kinda cool to make a new fender tag (i would need two actually) with all the options but instead of the VIN it should say something like "faketag".

Where did you find original power window switches?  That's an upgrade I'd love to do.

My 69 R/T SE was originally a triple green, stripe delete car with a column shift and buddy seat. I added the R/T stripe, floor shifter/console, factory power windows, manual disc brakes, did a complete color change, and deleted the power steering. Just sold it a few months ago to a good friend...   :'(

Charger RT

In my 68 R/T I added
wood grain wheel
map light
ignition light
glove box light.
I have the trunk light to add and
the back plate of the console with the light and cigerette lighter
tic tac toc
disc brakes from a 70 (they fit 14 inch wheels)
I would really like to get the factory 4 speed back in. I put an auto in because I had a running 440 auto when I put it together.

68 RT

Woodgrain wheel, would like to add 8 track.  :icon_smile_big:

8 track

15 magnums
chrome exhaust tips

Neal_J

My list:

Tic-Tock-Tac
Factory AM-FM
Pedal dress-up
Right external mirror
Six way seat
Carpeted floor mats
All wheel options (full sets of Magnums, Ralleys & Mag Hubcaps to change up the look from the standard hubcaps)
Concealed "Dukes' horn
Locking gas cap

Yet to go:

Power disc brakes

ChargerST

There are not too many options I could add (and which I like)

my Charger already came with hood pins, right side mirror, A01, A04, A/C, PB, PS (removed), Tic-Toc-Tach.

AM/FM is definately on my list (I'll try to make a 1966 AM/FM work in the meantime) and 6-way seat. I missed one on ebay last year (only went for $100).
Not keen on adding a spoiler (J81) or a luggage rack even though it was available from the factory.

R6red4spd69RT

The only thing different from my fender tag is the right side mirror I added.

33yeartoy

keystone classics and wide tires. ......oem! :drool5: :drool5: :coolgleamA: :coolgleamA: :2thumbs:

y3chargerrt

Tic toc tach to replace the clock and a right side mirror.

Right hand mirror

Column shift to floor shift.  Moved it back to the column this year.

Will probably go with leather seats.

I also removed the A/C and the PS......high rpm's tend to burn up pumps and throw belts....

I see a lot of you added passenger side mirrors. I think about doing this every time I drive my car. I usually drive a truck with no rear windows, so I just can't get the hang of backing the car up with no mirror. Can anyone tell me if a passenger side mirror was an option on a 68 Charger R/T?

I have added EVERYTHING is posible, but powered windows, 6 way driver seat, cassette player and sunroof.

have not mounted yet the Cruise Control but already have all the parts.

6 way seat wasn't an option for 74 anyway.

powered windows require A LOT of parts what makes virtually imposible to find... specially the upper rear panel brougham kind for hardtop ( to eliminate the crank hole )...

sunroof is REALLY HARD to find, I haven't bothered on search it PLUS WILL NEED TO ADD THE SHIPPING TO VENEZUELA.

cassette player... really expensive without guaranteed to work.

added electric trunk lock latch, which was optional on Mopars, not for Chargers as far I know, and the one I added is not the correct for 74, although still Chrysler.

added VARIABLE ( not 3 speeds ) wiper switch what wasn't an option anymore since 72. Of course the wiper motor is an upgrade too, due I got 2 speeds from fact

have the rear deffog/ rear speaker adaptor, what wasn't an option on B bodies, but will mount... someday.

what other stuff I have added which wasn't from factory ? let me see, mmm...

rallye cluster with clock... I don't think will fit a tach on cluster, I have a very discrete autometer tach below the dash frame

full 74 seatbelt system ( locally we got just lap belts )

brougham white panels, from standard woodgrained blue panels from fact.

highback buckets... locally Chargers got shortbacks made locally.

hood pins.

fender turn signals.

rallye wheels from deluxe hubcaps

both sides racing chromed mirrors from the standard on driver side

AM/FM stereo multiplexer radio from the AM Mono

map light

...

then the mechanical stuff like SG, rear sway bar...

I'll be adding a passenger side mirror that wasn't on the car originally (for safety reasons).  I'm also replacing the AM radio to an 8 track/AM because I have one.  The original 440 is long gone so I'll be installing a Hemi.  Either 426 or 528.  Don't know which yet.  I'll also be installing Coker BFG Silvertown radials to replace the original polyglass.  Most everything else will be as it came out of the factory.  I still have the original build sheet and original bill of sale.  Can't wait to get it on the road.

I believe it had something to do with wacky emissions laws. All CA cars had the turned-down tailpipes.

In my case everything leaked & I did not like the loose road "feel" it gave me. I love the way the manual steering feels and with the exception of parking wouldn't go back to power steering.

I don't think the pump uses more than a few HP and going manual drops about 40 pounds. It does clean up the engine bay some as a side benefit as well.

CA cars had the "noise reduction package" as mandatory -   under hood pad and turn down exhaust tips were mandatory.

I am not so completely convinced "all" got it.

In separate thread it sounded like "rechrged" has personal experiences with his one owner 68RT, he lives in Calif. and I would suspect that it was not that uncommon with dealer trades from surrounding states on cars imported to Calif not necessarily have or be modified by the dealers to include those items, in other words seems believable to me that some number slipped in as "new".  Beside a guy/gal could have bought one out of state and brought it in new... maybe :shruggy:

:popcrn:  Mostly purist I guess I like the mostly original, especially the colors, but do always change to wood grain wheel if not already one and mix up the wheels-tires.  Have added other factory dodge disc brakes .................. and ohh yeah get rid of those POS backwords threads (Engineered dumb :pity:)
